U2: The Best of 1990-2000
Our grade
B-
Artist / Band: U2
Record Label: Interscope Records
Release Date: November 05, 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Review:
A better title would have been U2: The Difficult Years. As everyone knows, the '90s did not see the biggest band in the world firing on all cylinders. These were the years dotted by electric lemons, gold lam? suits and the unforgivable sight of the Edge with a biker moustache. The music here naturally reflects the turbulence. While heavily loaded with classics like "One" and "Until the End of the World," from the early, promising Achtung Baby, the set quickly goes into a tailspin that hits terrible lows with the misguided "Discotheque" and utterly pointless "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me," lifted from the Batman Forever soundtrack. Things recover, though, with recent All That You Can't Leave Behind material, as well as a return to that mid-'80s peak, with new tracks "Electrical Storm" and "The Hands That Built America." That gives us hope for the impending The Best of 2000-2010 set...
