Set of Four Stamps This Irish Rock Legends stamp collection will be featured on 4 commemorative front covers in Hotpress on the 24th October. Hotpress will also run a competition to mark the launch of the stamps. Hotpress will be on sale in all newsagents and music stores nationwide. These Four Stamps on the most famous Irish Rock Legends include some amazing novelty collector's items that will be sure to stimulate interest from music fans and stamp collectors worldwide. These square stamps were designed by D5 and feature the following artists:- Phil Lynott Phil Lynott was the prime mover in Thin Lizzy, who were one of Irelands first successful rock exports. He was a noted melodic songwriter though this was often obscured by the brash sound of Lizzy. Phil Lynott died on 4th January 1986 aged only 34. The stamp portrays Phil in a macho pose that will be well recognised by fans everywhere. Rory Gallagher Rory was one of the first Irish blues artists to get International recognition. He first came to prominence with the band Taste who played a hard blues style. Taste broke up in 1970 but Rory continued touring and recording until his death in 1995. The stamp depicts Rory in one of his trademark blues performances which will bring back fond memories for those lucky enough to have seen him perform live. Van Morrison Van Morrison was born in 1945 into a family steeped in Jazz and blues. He began his career in the Monarchs show band, then formed Them with Bill Harrison in 1964 and had some success. In 1966 he split from Them and began a long successful solo career. His unconventional look for a pop star is captured on the stamp design. U2 This mega group sprang from humble beginnings in Dublin in 1976. From their first album, Boy, to the present day they have stormed popular rock music throughout the world. Their historic sell out Slane appearances in 2001have placed this band as the most successful of Ireland's rock exports. The stamp design is based on an iconic photo which portrays the raw style of U2.
