Bono has been named the 2003 MusiCares Person of the Year, just days after being named the most powerful person in music.
The accolade for the U2 frontman comes in the wake of his pioneering work on behalf of AIDS charities and the international Drop The Debt campaign.
Bono will be presented with the award by Billy Joel, last year's winner, at a ceremony in New York in February. The honour is bestowed by the American Recording Academy, which introduced the MusiCares initiative in 1989.
Last week, UK music title Q voted Bono the most powerful figure in the music industry across the globe, ahead of the likes of Eminem, Thom Yorke and a string of industry big-shots.
