DIDDY GETS HIS MTV
The nominations for the 2002 MTV Europe Music Awards were announced in London this morning, with an unprecedented six artists up for four awards apiece.
Eminem, Coldplay, Pink, Shakira, Kylie and Enrique Iglesias lead this year's nominations, ensuring that music fans will see a closely fought contest on November 14.
Today's press conference, held at the Emporium in central London, was hosted by MTV's Edith Bowman and saw a guest appearance from this year's host, Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs.
It was announced today that Coldplay, Enrique Iglesias, Pink and Wyclef are to join Robbie Williams as confirmed performers for the event, to be held at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona.
P Diddy will be the self-styled "ringmaster" of this year's awards describing it as a "honour" to be at the helm and promising the "best show yet."
"I think we're gonna have a big old party," said Combs. "It's doesn't get much sexier than this - MTV, Barcelona, Diddy! I love Spain and I love Spanish women."
P Diddy praised the awards for "breaking down barriers" and promoting the "universal language of music" before taking questions from the assorted media gathered in the central London club.
Diddy said he'd planned to be heavily involved in the planning of the whole event bringing "plenty of flava" to proceedings with "a lot of positive energy" and no forced jokes in the script.
