Dublin firm wins U2 tower competition

The Dublin Docklands Authority has announced the winning entry in a competition, launched and supported by U2, to build a unique new tower along Dublin's quays.
The new development along Sir John Rogerson's Quay will feature a unique twisting tower and will contain a recording studio for the rock band. The winning architects were Burdon Dunne/Craig Henry of Blackrock in Co Dublin and work on the project is expected to start next year.
A compulsory purchase order was placed on the studio and other buildings in the area last year after the Dublin Docklands Development Authority successfully argued that the public would need access to the waterways for a civic amenity it wants to develop. U2 reached a deal with the Docklands on the new location after losing a planning battle to save their existing studios from demolition for the E2bn development.
