U2 Plans Oscar Performance

U2 will perform its nominated song "The Hands That Built America" at the 75th Anniversary Academy Awards ceremony. Set for Sunday (March 23) at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, the event will be hosted by actor/comedian Steve Martin and broadcast live on ABC beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

As previously reported, U2 will be vying for the best song Oscar with its contribution to "Gangs of New York" soundtrack. Also nominated in the category is Eminem's "Lose Yourself" from his film "8 Mile," Paul Simon's "Father and Daughter" from "The Wild Thornberrys Movie," Elliot Goldenthal and Julie Taymor's "Burn It Blue" from "Frida," and John Kander and Fred Ebb's "I Move On," performed by Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones in "Chicago."

U2 is the only nominated artist so far announced as performing during the event. A spokesperson for Interscope, U2 and Eminem's label, confirmed that Eminem will not perform at the Oscars. At deadline a spokesperson for the Academy Awards was not available for comment regarding other performers.

Although they won't be performing, musicians-turned-actors Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith will each present an award during the ceremony. It will be the sixth Oscar telecast appearance for Lopez and the fourth for Smith.
