(KRT) - Embarrassing as it is to admit, we would rather hear rock stars sing than discuss world events.
Still, that is the fashion these days, and so we announce that Bono, the lead singer and songwriter of U2, will speak at the University of Pennsylvania's 248th commencement on May 17. Bono has done what Penn president Judith Rodin calls "tireless" work fighting AIDS and poverty in Africa. He also advanced civilization by uttering the world's naughtiest four-letter word at the Golden Globes in 2003. Brilliant! Bono will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree.
By the way, also receiving an honorary degree that day will be Elizabeth Blackburn. She's no rock star, but she's been working on curing cancer for almost 30 years. Bet the graduates squeal with delight when she shows up.
