Ireland's Leading Men Hit The Right Note
5 MARCH 2003

Two of Ireland's biggest names came face to face when Bono met Minority Report star Colin Farrell at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.

Bono was a double winner at the ceremony, taking home a special award for his humanitarian work while U2 also won the gong for best band. The star used the opportunity to appeal for people to take action against the Aids crisis in Africa. Referring to protests over the forthcoming war in Iraq, he called on people not to forget "the other war".

?The only thing I want to talk about is the other war, the forgotten war. Hundreds and thousands of people may die every day in Iraq in the next few months and that makes us feel a little ill. I want to know why there aren?t a million out on the streets for this other war.?

Colin meanwhile lived up to his wildman reputation by getting into a clinch with Jackass star Chris Pontius. Their horseplay was watched by a host of stars, including Tom Jones, Samantha Mumba, Westlife, Sinead O'Connor and The Corrs.

Bono's old friend and fellow campaigner Bob Geldof meanwhile collected a lifetime achievement award.
