Bob Geldof attends AIDS conference.
24 February 2004.
Campaigner and musician Bob Geldof was among the delegates at an international conference on HIV/AIDS in Dublin Castle yesterday.

'Breaking the Barriers - the Fight against HIV/AIDS in Europe and Central Asia' is one of the largest conferences that will take place during Ireland's EU presidency.

Addressing the conference, Geldof said that it was important that the EU became proactive in trying to halt the spread of HIV and AIDS.

He argued the problem needs to be addressed globally and that the epidemic in Africa should not be forgotten.

Geldof said: "HIV/AIDS is a global epidemic that defines the excluded of the world - the wretched of the Earth. Above everything, HIV defines those who can purchase well-being and those who die."

On tonight's 'Prime Time', Geldof will speak about his experiences across the African continent, as well as his views on the rights of single fathers and the official responses to the Omagh bombing.

It's SO GOOD to see Bob Geldof still at the forefront of the movement for Justice in our world!

He has always committed himself wholeheartedly to this Struggle and has in the process become an example for thousands of people, including myself, of one person who refuses to be silent about injustice. Remember, it was Bob who was a very important influence on Bono's social conscience and activism.

Best Wishes and Continued Success to them both!
