Random idea:

Everyone pick some songs (like up to 12 or so) and compile the soundtrack of your life. They can be your favorite songs, songs that remind you of yourself, songs that show how you feel....anything, just pick songs that you'd want to be remembered by.

Mine at the moment (in no particular order):

U2 - Slug
U2 - Acrobat
David Gray - New Horizons
David Gray - Birds Without Wings
Alphaville - Forever Young (accoustic, note, this is NOT the Forever Young of Bob Dylan OR Rod Stewart)
Kronos Quartet - Spem In Alium (Thomas Tallis)
Gladiator - Now We Are Free (Hans Zimmer/Lisa Gerrard)
Bono/Dave Stewart - American Prayer
Newsboys - He Reigns
Coldplay - The Scientist
Indigo Girls - Strange Fire
Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
Rufus Wainright or Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (I'm torn on this one!)

and a few other classical ones I don't know the actual names of

wow awesome idea  but tough one to do

My list:

Natalie Merchant-Wonder
Marvin Gaye- Let's Get It On
U2- Bad
U2- ISHFWILF
Fleetwood Mac- Everywhere
Fleetwood Mac- Gyspy
Cranberries- Ode to the Family
Cranberries-Linger
Bruce Springsteen- Born in the USA
Coldplay- Green Eyes

more later

Geez, wow...let's see here.

In no particular order...

1. "Stuck In A Moment"-U2
2. "Mary Jane's Last Dance"-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3. "Pretty Woman"-Roy Orbinson
4. "Long, Long Time"-Linda Ronstadt
5. "Angel Of Harlem"-U2
6. "Kiss Me"-Sixpence None The Richer
7. "Imagine"-John Lennon
8. "Acrobat"-U2
9. "All Or Nothing"-O-Town (yes, that's an odd fit here, and I'm not an O-Town fan by any means...but this song does coincide with a nice memory for me)
10. "New York, New York"-Frank Sinatra
11. "Sunday Bloody Sunday"-U2

That's all I'm gonna list...there's so many more I know I could put, though.

Angela

Magic Carpet Ride- Steppenwolf
Dreamin'- Blondie
Hold Me Now- The Thompson Twins
Hey Hey What Can I Do- Led Zeppelin
Love is a Long Long Road- Tom Petty
Wonderwall- Oasis
Just Like Anyone- Soul Asylum
My Favorite Mistake- Cheryl Crow
One- U2
Beautiful Day- U2

These are all part of my story, not necessarily my favorites. I mean, I like all these songs, but I doubt any but the U2 songs would have made my top 10 if not for their personal significance.

Oooh good question ... I'm going with songs that either DESCRIBE or really suit me in some way or songs that have heavy "historical" meaning.

1. The Last Song I'll Ever Sing - Gavin Friday
"so long, goodbye, i lost, did try ... this is the last song i'll ever sing"

2. Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk - Rufus Wainwright
"Everything it seems I like's a little bit stronger ... A little bit thicker, a little bit harmful for me"

3. So Real - Jeff Buckley
"I love you ... but I'm afraid to love you"

4. Rebel Rebel - David Bowie
"We like dancing and we look divine ..."

5. Only Happy When It Rains - Garbage
"I'm only happy when it's complicated ..."

6. The Waitress - Tori Amos
"So I want to kill this waitress ... But I believe in peace, I believe in peace, BITCH."

7. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - U2
"They want you to play Jesus, to go down on one knee ... but they'll want your money back if you're alive at 33"

8. Don't Make Me Come to Vegas - Tori Amos
"Don't make me come to Vegas, don't make me pull you out of his bed, I am vigillant ..."

9. Not A Pretty Girl - Ani DiFranco
"I'm not a pretty girl, that's not what I do. I'm no damsel in distress and I don't need to be rescued, so put me down, Punk. Wouldn't you prefer a maiden fair, and isn't there a kitten up in a tree somewhere ?"

10. With or Without You - U2
"And you give yourself away, you give yourself away ..."

Wow...this is hard. Good question though Lies.

Hmm...I guess these are in no particular order.

"In A Little While" - U2

"Pure And Easy" - The Who

"Is It In My Head" - The Who

"Everybody Hurts" - R.E.M.

"Numb" - U2

"Dear Prudence" - The Beatles

"Shades of Grey" - The Monkees

"Rio" - Michael Nesmith

"Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd

"In My Time of Dying" - Led Zeppelin

"Don't Look Back In Anger" - Oasis

"The Masterplan" - Oasis

"All Things Must Pass" - George Harrison

Fe Reg ... all those songs suit you to a T.

I also want to add "Come On Eileen" because I have a fantastic memory of dancing to it with my friends in a pub. My recollection is a little fuzzy but I was wearing an evening gown, santa hat and had been decorated with streamers by my friend Dorion. It was great, one of those memories that are lit with an amber light.

Okay, here goes. I love stuff like this. :D

Ani DeFranco--Not a Pretty Girl
U2--all of them.

Okay, kidding.

U2--One, Peace on Earth, Still Haven't Found, Streets, Acrobat, Mysterious Ways, When I Look at the World (for my bellydancing class ;))

Bruce--Thunder Road, Badlands, Born to Run, Human Touch

Indigo Girls--Closer to Fine, Prince of Darkness, The Wood Song

The Beatles--Let it Be, Revolution, My Sweet Lord (okay, that one's solo), Imagine (so's that one)

Bonnie Raitt--Shadow of Doubt (anyone else know this one? Amazing song!)

Amy Grant--All I Ever Have to Be

DC Talk--What If I Stumble?

REM--Everybody Hurts

Marvin--What's Goin On?

Alanis--You Live, You Learn; Fine/Hand in Pocket (girl tell it like it is!)

That's it for now, I think. :D

oh my...well, i'm going to be redundant and say that these aren't necessarily my favorites, but good memories/associations...

jeff buckley-morning theft..."i have no right to wonder just how or when"...

jeff buckley-hallelujia

jeff buckley-everybody here wants you..."and all the tears we've cried have dried on yesterday, the sea of fools has parted for us, there's nothing in our way"...

jeff buckley-lover, you should've come over...ok, this one is mostly
just because i love it so much, but it always brings such good feelings...

rem-nightswimming...this one big time...

rem-everbody hurts...shed some tears during tough times to this one...

rem-find the river...i don't know why but it always carried with it this sense of closure...

rem-sweetness follows..."i always wondered why did you bother, distanced from one, blind to the other"

u2-stuck in a moment...first u2 song i fell in love with, and now look what you've done to me...

u2-please...the whole song...every single lyric...

bono/dave stuward-american prayer...i'm sure this is for the same reason lies posted it, but the whole heart of america tour thing was just a little bit life-altering...

sigur ros-star?lfur and olsen olsen (for the score of my life)

oasis-don't look back in anger

coldplay-the scientist...

beck-lost cause...sadly, this is my self-image at times...

pete yorn-lose you...ok, way too good a memory attached to this one to let it go without mention...

the beatles-we can work it out..."life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend"...

pink floyd-brain damage...heehee, how come you didn't mention that one, lies? :lmao:

when peace like a river..."when peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll. whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say it is well, it is well with my soul"

ok, so that wasn't under 12...and i probably forgot some big ones, but whatcha gonna do? *shrug*

I have my soundtrack to my life in no order at all

1.Hold me Now = Thompson Twins
I grew up listening to this song. My mother keeps telling me that when I was an infant that the video to this song would keep me calm whenever I was cranky or finky

2.Imagine = John Lennon
The only reason I chose this song is because I sang it once when I was in my high school choir my sophmore year

3.Clocks = Coldplay
Really enjoyable song and I really love the piano parts of the song

4.Someday = Nickelback
It reminds me of my parents and I trobled times and the time that my parents almost split up, but it wasn't long. Plus this is the best Nickelback ever in my taste.

5.A Day Without Me = U2
Title says it best. And also I like to think I have sometimes have a huge ego under my total niceness.

6.Stories for Boys = U2
Again, I like this song because it's so my life. I watch TV as a means of escape from my mother constanly yelling at my father for no reason at all, about the same thing over and over too.

7.My Sweet Lord = George Harrison
Another Enjoyable song about God. Best solo song of Harrison.

8.Sunrise = Simply Red
I thought this was a Hall and Oates song (They took the beats from a Hall and Oates song so that's why), but when I started to hear the lyrics, I really started to like it.

9.My Last Breath = Evanescense
Another one of those songs where the title says it all. But it's my soul and not my whole well being

10.Seven Nation Army = White Stripes
I liked the video to this song, plus I wish I had a seven nation army, so we can do something with the politcial system is going here in the United States.

11.Electrical Storm = U2
One of the most lovely songs that U2 has ever done. I love the words, but I love the beat even better, with Edge's guitar and the piano playing out soo well

12.Work it = Missy Elliot
I like Missy Elliot and I like her songs. She is not like most rappers out there today. I find her very innovated and this song proves that.

13.Alive = P.O.D
Yet another song in which the title says it all. I'm happy to be alive, even after 9/11.

14.Beautiful Day = U2
I figure this would be the final song in my soundtrack, because of the fact that I hope that it will be a beautiful day when I die. This is a really simple song, and I love simple songs.

That is all of the songs that I can think of to put on the soundtrack to my life. I hope everyone will like it.

I love that song. :).

And to the person who mentioned Simply Red's "Sunrise"-good song, yes. I like it, too.
