So I met Bono in Vegas......

yeah, it was tres cool!!!!

bahhh

it was after the show, and after waiting all day to see them drive by (security pl at the Thomas & Mack were SOOO mean) I had succumbed and eventually accepted the fact that I would not meet them, even though I had bought seats (the ONLY advantage, and not a very good one. never again!) But I had accepted it and moved on. .... but after the show I figured what the heck, maybe I'll just go say goodbye to my favorite red trucks..... and there are their cars!!!!

So I RUN to the side of the ramp (on top of which is a 6ft tall fence) and realize they have NOT come out yet. Suddenly people start cheering and I see an unmistakable beanie!!! Edge waves and smiles and gets into his car.

Then came Bono. Mystery man, dressed in that white button down shirt w/ ruffles a-la Mysterious Ways video and a black leather jacket and just beautiful and I nearly didn't believe what was happening right in front of my eyes!! He walks to someone who had been inside the building and gave him a big bear hug, then John escorts him to the car, and everyone is cheering and waving and applauding and Bono is smiling and he goes to get in the car, then stops and comes around the front of the car. I am standing DIRECTLY there, on the other side of the ramp/fence, of course.

He is walking right to me and I said "Bono! Peace, Bono!" and I realize that sounds corny but I didn't want to panic or make him nervous so I stared him right in the eye and smiled and sort of nodded at him so he wouldn't think I was an aggressive whatever, I don't know, who can really explain thoughts that go into or out of our heads at those moments. So anyway he comes right up to me and I have this book i've been dying to give him, and I slid it under the fence and on top of the ramp (at about chest level) and I say like 4 times "Bono, this is for you" like a kindergardener not wanting to forget her lines! and he takes the book and says "wow, oh wow, thank you" and turns it right side up so he can read the title and I wanted to say so much more (not like I had a script planned or anything..... *ahem*) but he looked at me with his eyes and I swear I heard angels singing!!! there were many people around cheering and calling for him and I didn't want to talk b/c there was too much going on, so I just smiled blissfully at him, and he was beautiful.

A girl to my left got his attention and snaked her hand under the fence and I think they shoook hands and suddenly I realized *I* wanted to touch him (ok and since I would have to check myself directly into a mental institution if I said that aloud to him) I just put my hand under the fence and proceeded to scratch myself up and had to retract! lol... anyway he walked to my right next and signed an autograph for someone and was laughing with them, I did not catch the exchange at all. Then John said they had to go so Bono waved and said thank you and smiled and was really looking around in this opened eyed awe at everyone. It was beautiful. No one was obnoxious or crass or offensive- just thanking him and cheering for him, it was wonderful!!

Then he gets in his car and waves and they take off. Larry or Edge was next, either way neither of them rolled down their window where I was (Larry supposedly did around the corner) then Adam's car pulled right up in front of me and his window was down and he was smiling and nodding at everyone and no one- a great trick to make it seem they are looking at everyone at once! Someone said "Adam you rock" and everyone was just cheering for him and he was nodding and smiling graciously.

It was realllly great and I can't tell you how excited I am, how not believing that it really happened!!!! I did have a camera w/ me and took some pictures and in my whole life I've never ever lost a roll of film, but this one has mysteriously disappeared. I dont know what happened to it and i'm upset BUT that image of Bono's beautiful blue eyes staring into mine, all happy and smiley, will NEVER fade away!!

BTW- Vegas was great fun, so nice to finally meet so many people!! I have some pics but they're not terrific so I'm not rushing them up or anything. Anyway big hi to everyone I met and if I find that film, you'll all be the first to know!!

lol!! everyone wants to know what book I gave Bono!!! ok lean in close and I'll whisper you my secret... it was The Little Prince. You probably have heard of it- it's actually a children's book but when I read it a while back I realized Bono would love it and I wanted to give it to him, although he probably already has read it since he reads everything! So yeah, that was it.

Oh you're the one that gave Bono the book!!! I think I was 3 or 4 people down from you I was standing next to the guy that had given him the cross during the concert.

I'm sorry but if you think that crowd was polite I'd hate to see a rowdy one. The guy that climbed halfway up the fence? What about the girl who went so fecking beserk she literally rammed herself into me causing me to in turn get pressed up against the fence as if it were a cartoon, you know with the face all distorted pressed up against the glass. Me looking all weird and Bono literally looking into my eyes as this girl stuck her hand in through the maniacally trying to reach him. Not to mention the near stampede as they drove away. Oh well, I wonder if they realize that by going beserk you actually lessen your chance of meeting them.

Anyhow I had fun I can't believe I missed you though.

mbi16- I had GC so --oh waiiittt NOW i remember the guy giving B a necklace!!! wow that was awesome!! yeah i saw it from my GC seats. I dont know why we had two completely different interpretations of that crowd- I can only attribute mine to being completely blissed out at seeing Bono right in front of me, and I remember a lot of people cheering. BUt I do remember some pl pushing- i heard in LA3 they got Bono into a car and immediately off b/c people rushed him or something... scary. maybe that's why he went towards me b/c i was concentrating on not screaming or scaring him. wasn't it great to see him so close? too bad you and i never got to meet! there was so many pl i missed out on meeting!!

I'm glad you guys like the book- it's a little scary to share that! lol, i dont know why. some pl don't get it, i guess. and thanks mullen-girl!! i really hope everyone gets a chance like that! i was soo lucky!!

What a sweet book to give Bono! That seems like a great choice. I dunno, I think most people love that book who've read it. It's sort of a children's book but there's so much going on. I have a hard time reading it though, the end destroys me completely.

I FOUND THE ARTICLE!!!

From the Las Vegas Sun:

Sudden screams of excitement indicated U2 was
about to leave the building. Quickly a crowd of
onlookers crowded against a chain-link fence to see,
talk and maybe even touch their idols.

While the band's supporters didn't get to see all four
members, they did get Bono, who made his way to the
end of the fence and signed autographs and chatted
with well-wishers for a few minutes.

One woman dropped her ticket in the hopes that Bono
would retrieve it and give it back.

No such luck. The singer never saw the ticket nor
heard her cries that she'd been waiting for a long time
to talk with him.

A few minutes later, a twentysomething woman had
clearly had better luck, as she spun in circles in
delirious enthusiasm.

"I gave him my book," she said with a smile. "A book I
wanted him to have."

Before she could answer what that book was, she was
whisked away by a friend, and the two danced off in
celebration.

And who could blame them? After all, this was U2.

HOW COOL!!! They wrote about how ecstatic you were!
Hope you find some pics...
I never found any of my Bono kiss in San Jose, there were cameras, but so far I never did have luck finding pics of that. damn

Yeah no LA3 was a bit of a mess. Well the barricades aren't exactly bolted to the ground, it's just those metal things they use for the GA line. So basically we were on the sidewalk, one step above Bono, also meaning that the barricades legs didn't have much room for support. So if you leaned on them the could easily tip over. Well LA3 was the last night for a lot of people and obviously after 2 nights of having stopped after the show the news got around and there were a lot of people.

I was towards the end of it and I knew everyone around me so when people started to push I calmy turned around and said there's no need to push, please don't push we're gonna tip over the barricades. Amazingly everyone in that area calmed down even the screams stopped. But towards the middle where Bono stood nobody really took the time to do what I did and some idiots that had just arrived thought it would be funny to push everyone up. As the barricades moved forward and no one bothered to stop Bono had no choice but to leave. Really it's more for our own safety than his, cause he can see the barricade falling and easily get out of the way. But it's the girls in front getting squished that wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

It's the same way at a the concerts. Opening night Miami he threatened to take off his jacket while standing at the tip and all of a sudden me and everyone else standing there were suddenly pushed into the barricades, he noticed this put the jacket back on and moved away before things got worst.

So like I said, the amount of time you get to spend with them is dependent upon your own behavior.
