question 'bout nicknames

In reading fan fiction here and elsewhere, I've noticed people referring to Edge at "Reg". Where does this come from? I've seen something in real life where they're calling Larry Lardence (I forget what I saw it in). And I know Adam is Sparky. But why "Reg"? I've never heard Bono refer to him as that in real life but maybe I'm just not watching the right interviews or video clips.

Yeah, they do call him Reg....I've forgotten where I've seen it, but I know one of the other girls will tell you for sure!!

Bono referred to him during lovetown as reg, I've a recording of.. I think it was Pride in Rotterdam 1990, Before the solo Bono introduces Adam and Larry, then Reggie the dog... aka Edge...
