If I remember correct, Bono and Mel aren't so great mates since then.
Didn't Bono felt Mel let him down tremendously by saying he didn't like the movieplot, that it was money (even his own) down the drain etc. (I'm sure I read it somewhere, just don't recall where..)

edit: found a linkie ;)

And Bono's reaction:

Oh I remember the quote from Mel....Thank you for posting the links, but I was just saying that Mel was a fan because someone inserted a tiny u2 logo on his shirt ;)

Mel Gibson has subsequently proven that he's not so together and not such a nice guy.

His words about M$H were the tipoff. Then there's his other comments during his drunken rant to police etc.

M$H was not meant to be a blockbuster. Mel Gibson was mad that he made the arty-indie picture and didn't reap the "indie cred". So when it wasn't reviewed in glowing terms by critics, Mel became it's worst critic by trashing the film.

It isn't like he didn't know the story and the script. Flanagan's book well documents how Bono pitched the script to Mel during the ZOOTV tour. Then again, Mel was being a little Prima Donna then, saying he wouldn't do it if Joanau was the Director; as Bono wanted to have Joanau direct the picture. Maybe that should have been a clue to Bono that Gibson was going to act as he did if he didn't get his way or if the film didn't get HIM the acclaim he'd hoped for.

In short, Mel Gibson... eat my shorts.
