The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Oh, Tara, "Peter's Friends" kills me dead with the Stephen Fry. I'm convinced we'd make the perfect couple except for, you know, the sex part.

 I absolute adore Stephen Fry. And in "Peter's Friends" he is just :cute:. I love the second "Sherlock Holmes" movie just because he plays Mycroft!

Right now I'm watching "The Conjuring" and I'm actually scared. :reject: Horror films don't usually scare me.... except for the 2003 version of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." To this day, I've only ever seen about 30 to 45 minutes of this movie. It terrifies me that much.

 Yeah I don't have that problem as I didn't discover U2 until Bomb!

:lol: My parents had JT on cassette. And I think they may have had UF as well. I know my mom went out and bought AB when THAT was released.

So I was raised among 'soft' U2 fans and then as a teen decided I could. not. stand. Bono. (ATYCLB time).

But of course, U2 sucked me back in with Bomb. I was in college by that point, and not only did I fall head over heels for Adam, I'd met Mr CK who was a HUGE fan. Fate, I suppose...

My parents have shitty music taste, sadly. Da listens to blues music, and NOT the good kind of blues, and french shoite. It's horrible, really. Only music we can agree on is the Dire Straits, haha.

Breaking into this convo becuase I know your parents and I think it is funny.
My parents had the JT LP , UF , and New Years Day single, which they got from a friend.

aaaaaaand they had the Elevation Boston DVD, years later.
They played it so much , apparently I hated it, and told them to quit playing it.
I Dug it out a year later and then I liked it agian and got hooked.
After that I discovered that they where the one's playing the discotheque song. Which was one of my favourite songs to bounce to/ be hyper as a kid.

So , even if your parents have a good music taste. You probably don't think the music is cool becuase your parents listen to it.
Bomb was also the major turning point though. Thats when I started demanding I wanted to see them live. :D So with you there.

I & sis had all the early albums in Vinyl
AB was my first cassette, first CD's ( because with my income sputtering I couldn't afford a CD player then for a long time.

By the time ATYCLB arrived my mom had given me her boom box ( with tape/CD/radio) when she moved into the nursing home. SO I've gotten CD's since then. :D

My lttle MP3 player is buried some where since 2009ish  (Special Edition from Pink) and the special earbuds-- i have no iddea where they afre ewither....but i'll try my regular ones)

Does anybody know if it's worth procuring an Achtung Baby vinyl rip? My cd is pretty skippy now. I know the vinyl itself costs like a million bucks, but is it worth tracking down a rip for the sound?

Also, didn't there use to be a series on youtube called Love Song for the 1980s or something like that? And it was a lot like OIA, live footage of JT tour, but not the same one? I went looking for it tonight and couldn't find it. Also part 1 of OIA seems to be missing!

Hello!

I've been a bad PLEBAn... :reject:

Well, more accurately I've been a ridiculously busy and distracted one... I heard something about a soundtrack for a film about Mandela? And that photo I saw posted in here a few pages back. And more no news about an album. *L*

Hope everyone's been well! Congrats to Thora on the job, hope you're enjoying it. :D

Tara, did I see a reference to a TARDIS bathrobe and a light on a headband as a Halloween costume? Cool idea, I want pics! I have that bathrobe and it's super comfy, and warm too.

And speaking of Whovian costume things, my insane 11-Doctors-in-one costume is basically finished!! With a lot of help from a friend who can sew (and who also thinks I'm bananas, but what else is new!), and the internet and ebay... all I need to do now is glue a magnet to Five's fake celery so I can attach it to the lapel of Nine's leather jacket without putting holes in it, and paint Two's recorder in blue stripes and stick a tassel on the end.

Here is a pic of what I've got for Doctors Two, Six, Four and Ten:

and here's a bonus of the top half, except I didn't have the waistcoat when I took this:

I also have a fez, and the sonics for Eleven and Four. Dunno if the panama hat will survive 24+ hours rolled up in my suitcase!

And what the hell, here's the trousers and waistcoat my friend helped me with: (and also my very messy room/mirror)

So, besides all the costume stuff, I've spent the last few months going mad at work, and also applying for what is basically my own freaking job. Had to do a full-on hour-long interview for the first time in about 10 years - everyone in the team had to as well, so at least we're all in it together. Cos we all needed another reason to stress our brains out, it's not like we've been swamped in work all year or anything.
Anyway, big company restructure, some positions will be lost but there is project work that will hopefully give everyone somewhere to go. Maybe. We think. Sigh.
Initially they told us we'd know the results in the first week of November (which is when I'll be away on leave); then last week they told us we'd find out early this week. Yesterday (which is late this week, for those keeping score at home), they told us we'd be informed "no later" than Wednesday NEXT week. At this rate they'll tell us at Christmas that we'll find out two years ago. Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey! :banghead:

And I'm going on a month's holiday to the UK (and Europe on the way home!), flying out next Thursday night, eeeeee!! :hyper: And also my mum had a hip replacement yesterday, and I need to leave right now to go visit her in hospital (which is two hours away).

:panic: :panic: :hyper:

ETA: And also, I'm going to see David Tennant doing Shakespeare's Richard II on stage in Stratford-upon-Avon while I'm away!!! I've run out of smiley allowance but AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!! /fangirl

I wonder if they designed that outfit for Edge with the intention of making him look gay or if it was incidental? And if it was inspired by the mustache, cause he had that for quite a while beforehand.

*butts in*
Given the obvious Village People overtones in the Discotheque video, I'm going with Yes.
*butts out*

 Ali. Wow that is one ambitious Dr Who costume! I've never seen anything like that! Looks like it will be great. My girls still wear some of their Who costumes when they go to Comic-con, even though they don't watch the show anymore. They liked it for a while, and had fun putting the costumes together, but they don't watch it currently. Chelsea has 3 completed River costumes and Camille does #4. You've probably seen the pics I've posted here of them. Where are you talking your costume? Sounds great!! :D

Hmm... how about the WAV version? :hmm: I have both AB and Zooropa in these. Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazin' quality. The file sizes are bigger though (one song is about 45 MB). They were available to download when you bought the deluxe and uber box set version of Achtung Baby. I could send you them if you like.

One day I am going to find AB on vinyl. Preferably a version with the unedited Adam on it. (As if I haven't seen it...) (I just want to say I own it. :shifty: )

I found TUF on vinyl for under $10 at an awesome used bookstore up in Kent, OH over Labor Day weekend. They had War and October vinyls as well, but I was on a tight budget. Someday....

That would be great, Comet. Thanks!

So my line of questioning goes on about the pornstache. Given that the white cowboy business was deliberately gay camp, what about the 'stache? Because he grew that a couple of years before the album was released. Did he know it was amazingly gay when he grew it? Either way is equally great, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the evolution of those pop looks.

Lucky find, CK! There's only one shop in my area that still specializes in vinyl and I haven't been in in years, but I'm going to make a pilgrimage soon. I'm pretty sure that all the thrift stores in my area have hipsters working in back who skim off any vinyl that could possibly have any value and resell it, because I have not seen a good record in one for years. But you can get them for around ten including shipping on ebay on TUF and earliers.

Sadly the only vinyl I found had a big black cross over the dangly bits. Haven't been able to find a European pressing here, funnily enough. :grumpy:
