Car update: It was a caliper (fucked if I know what that is) and the brakes. The smoking was a combo of a small leak in the antifreeze coupled with it sitting for a long time. We don't drive it very often. So, $500 later - we have new brakes, calipers, oil and sticker. The tank that could is good for another 2 years hopefully.

Also, I seem to remember hearing that Adam's side seems to not fill up as fast ... not sure about rail, but I know I've seen comments throughout the tour that people have had good luck finding pit space on that side.
