Hey, Larry, if I ever get to Dublin, I'm still coming to see the studio. So, you better get over it, sweety. :D

Here's the exchange:

LARRY MULLEN: I'm a little intolerant of the fan, and when I say fan I mean the fanatic, like hanging outside studios, or hanging outside people's houses. I just think that's a waste of time.

JW: And do you tell them?

LARRY MULLEN: I just try to just avoid, I really do avoid, because what happens, I think people become a little...it becomes more of an infatuation than somebody who is interested in music. People become too interested in you. And I often think of Bono in these situations, when I see these people hanging outside, and I think I wish those guys would go and spend the afternoon writing letters to different presidents and let Bono back into the studio, and do what he really wants to do.

It was nice Bono mentionin Belfast.....shame he didnt say Popmart first time in 10 years in Belfast and chose the Yes Agreement concert, which was a shambles in that many many here figured it was just a publicity stunt to also encourage yougn students who would seemingly just about agree for anything......and it was also seen as misleading...

ah well..

but tanks for just sayin 'Belfast' Bono!

;)

Im about to come out with the most unimaginable crap here but:

If Larry et all were sooo concerned about pple outside the studio, and lets face it, mostly tourists from all over........fans desperate to see place of work and U2's faces in person....and of course theres talk that pple of Ireland, and Dublin, etc, leave U2 alone.........well why not record at a secret location....bollox to where u've worked at for years and years! Move somewhere and dont breathe where! If it bothers that much! You cant expect fanatical fans to lay off..................unfort fans like that cannot help themselves.....they're too involved and really cannot help themselves.....they dont know how to allow privacy......because they're too involved................I dont know what thats like.....Im into U2 but not obsessive............

(no not makin fun here)

(NOT tryin to sound rude here......:))

*hides*

Just wanted to add a bit more..just my humble opinion that of course not everyone will agree with :)

All I feel U2 'owes' me, if anything, is their best effort making their beautiful music/at concerts, and respect for me in return for the respect that I give them.

They could all avoid fans at the studio or anywhere else-this would not be ideal of course, but they could do it. They could all also be free to have/give the opinion that Larry did. I can't imagine that any other band/singers of their stature have so much personal contact w/ their fans. From my limited experience, others certainly don't. That is a privilege that they afford us. Unfortunately some people abuse this, and/or get carried away to the point where it does become obsessive and intrusive.

They are not superhuman, and I'm sure even Bono must get a bit 'annoyed' sometimes, for lack of a better word. Putting myself in their place, I certainly would.

They share their great music w/ us, and anything else is GRAVY :D

Just my perspective-that's all :)

I know, I nearly fell off the chair when he said "Belfast", with Dublin being so cool over the years I sometimes feel Belfast is forgotten about so its nice to get a mention. Just like it was nice for Bono and the others to come here for the Hotpress awards and stay over night. Destiny's child travelled to Dublin for two nights when they were playing Belfast, how sad is that!!

About the Larry thing, we are not all going to agree and life would be dull if we did. I still stand by my views and think it would be a rare occurance for Larry to be stalked by a fan.

And where do you stop, is being in Dublin and going to the studios once too much?? How much time can you stand still without being a "fanatic"?? You know, where is the line??

I feel like I'm comming in late on this issue but I believe this (above quote) is his real problem....not the fans. Sicy mentioned that most girls like Larry because his hot!! I'm older than everybody here (I think) and over the years, I've also become a big Bono fan but I always be a larry fanatic  I mean a fanie. I've read the whole thread and I'm glad to see that we agree to disagree.

Speaking of fans...

My friend mentioned a good point to me, concerning Larry's thoughts on "fanatics" or whatever. We shouldn't forget that Mr. Mullen did name one of his children after his idol, Elvis. :sexywink: What about that Lar? :sexywink:

The entire transcript is now up on U2.com... just thought you'd like to know :)

One question, I was reading the end of the transcript and they have the comments regarding the Peterson Book to Adam.

Wasn't it Bono that was talking about that?

Yeah, that's what I thought. There were a couple of places in that transcript where they seemed to mis-attribute quotes. Transcribing is difficult especially when you're dealing with four people with somewhat similar voices and a connection that wasn't always the greatest, so the mistakes are understandable.

If I saw Larry Mullen Jnr, right?

If I saw him in a street in Dublin right?

Id walk over....and....using a microphone..

scream into his ear......

:D

WHAT ABOUT YA, YA BIG MAD DRUMMER, YA BIG EEJIT YA! GO AWN! GET UR MOOBS OUT FOR THE GIRLZ!

I told them they should have let me co-interview. That silly Jo Wiley just wanted them all to herself!
