I was going through my desk tonight when I happened upon my copies of "Idle Ramblings" the book of poems and short stories that I helped produce annually during high school. In the issue from my freshman year, I happened upon some goofy U2 poetry I had written! I can't believe they even published this stuff!! I was such a crazily infatuated teenager!!!
eek.gif
*lol* My obsession back then is kind of embarrassing, actually...but here goes!

The first one I wrote on Larry's 35th birthday!

~~~~
On October 31st, no one is sullen,
For that is the birthday of Larry Mullen
This sexy man was born in '61,
Today is a day for all to have fun
"Who is Larry?" you all ask,
Explaining is my favorite task
He's the hot drummer for U2,
One blonde stud, that is true
I watch his bulging biceps when he starts to drum,
He leaves my body feeling oh so numb
Ever since I found out he had been created,
I've been extremely infatuated
So that is the hot hunk that we call Larry,
Who says that Halloween has to be scary?!
~~~~
(This one is just a rambling about how wonderful Bono is...God, I was REALLY obsessed back then!!!)

Bono has eyes of a sparkling blue,
They are such a gorgeous hue
He's hot in color or black and white,
Without him, nothing is right
He is the God of Rock & Roll,
He's even done blues and a bit of soul
His Irish accent turns me on,
From the dusk of night to the break of dawn
He has my heart, and he always will,
Even when I'm old, I'll love him still
I love his skin, it is so pale,
My love will continue to prevail
He is such a perfect guy,
Without him, I think I'd die
He hangs out with Adam, Edge, and Larry,
Without him, life would be scary
My friends say he's too old for me,
But they're speaking out of jealousy

~~~~
(I wrote this in anticipation for PopMart...I get a little psycho in this one too...*lol*)
Pretty soon I'll be Madison bound,
And four hot guys will soon be found
They will be a sight to see,
From where I sit in row 43
Adam, Bono, Edge, and Larry,
Which one will I choose to marry?
Bono is the sexiest Irish dude,
With a humble attitude
But Edge is wise beyond his years,
He's brave and will conquer all my fears
But Adam is cultured and loves to go out,
He knows what partying is all about
Then again, Larry is a biker guy,
He and his Harley can practically fly
Deciding sure isn't much fun,
How can I pick only one?
It sure would be a ball,
If I could have them all
I can't decide at this point in my life,
But someday one will have me for his wife
~~~~

(Another psychotic ode to Bono
wink.gif
)

Bono is a man that is fine,
Someday I hope that he'll be mine
When I saw him, his hair was no longer black,
I wish he'd grow his ponytail back
I say it's love, my friends say it's lust,
But I caught them watching his pelvis thrust
We were made for each other like Barbie and Ken,
He is the manliest of the manly men
My parents thought it was a phase,
But there's no stopping this Bono-craze
He's such a stud in his tight, green shirt,
I love him so much it's starting to hurt
I saw him dance with a girl, it made me cry,
There's one chick that's gonna die
For no one can touch my man,
Or I'll stuff you in a garbage can
When he sings a song, my heart will soar
I've never felt like this before

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHo says Halloween has to be scary?! LOL!

Heh I wrote a poem that involved U2. For AP Eng we had to write about a person, and it's about this girl I knew in 7th grade who had/has an eating disorder. I'll go find it. Hold on.

WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE YOU DON'T NEED IT NOW
WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW YOU CAN FEEL IT SOMEHOW

"Your girl leans over and says, "Daddy, can you turn that radio up any louder?" ~Bruuuce!~

Note: I got a C on this and my teacher was like "I don't get it"

Mona: it's about a girl with an eating disorder...and...October is a U2 song...and CD

Teacher: Oh...U2...

Mona: And...it's about...getting... distracted from...important things? Like the song....not really caring about eh...and the other person...um....and...the trees?

Teacher: Oh! U2!

Then she re-read it and I got an A
smile.gif
I stole all kinds of U2ey ideas. Sshh don't tell.

To October
Real authentic imitation leather....
Well, whatever will make the bruise better.
Isn't it funny for us fish seeking bikes
how the sea hugs itself into ice?
Beth said We could find a good soul at the flea market,
a strong arrow to help us find the target.

They list the fashion columns opposite the obituaries:
Doe-eyed tombs planted in pride's cemetery.
With the ease of sweet thin Catholic girls and boys,
you're hungry for inside-out, digging a void.
So I tried to cure you, and made you listen to "October,"
but then all I wanted was for Paul to come over....

I, too, think the popular thoughts.
but I don't live in black and white.
I am where the children are;
they stay when I turn out the lights.

You killed the vacuum again and stacked the dishes,
thought about the man next door and imaginary kisses.
I waited for a flood to bowl me over enough
where I could not think -- and instead just love.
We built up the fence and I could not see over.
So I just went to my room and listened to "October."

Somewhere you're thinking the popular thoughts
and reveling in black and white.
Here I am -- where the children are.
They stay when I turn out the lights.

Yet you set your lovely steps
in between where the sidewalk's wet.
As long as you want
you turn the charm on.
And I'll just keep citing the nice times
like we always treated each other so kind.

Weighed down by the popular thoughts,
and yet always light always light,
your last day you wanted to be where the children are,
for someone to wait after you turned off the light.

I thought I was cured when I heard "October,"
but then all I wanted was for Paul to come over.
I wanted to worry about the weather or my posture,
as the children mourned 'never had her, but o we lost her.'

You wanted a flood to bowl you over neough
where I would not think -- and instead just love.
In the summer I go back to "October," back to "October,"
and I still leave when the important parts are not yet over.

Heh, thanks for helpin me get an 'A,' Bono

Mona, I know I've gotten a kick out of making fun of the things you write in the past, but Jesus that is a BRILLIANT poem! And this comes from someone who does not like poetry (when it's not set to music, of course).

I'm always blown away by someone who is known for being really silly, and then they show that they can be sincere and profound, too.

U2 or no U2, I can't imagine anyone giving you a C for this poem.

Disco (orig. from Wisc.)

I used to live in the U.P. of Michigan (I'm in the Lower Peninsula now), so Madison was the closest stop U2 was making for us on the PopMart tour (even though it was about 5 hours away). So...my parents...being the wonderful, wonderful parents they are...toted my sister (who didn't want to go!!!) and me to Madison! My first U2 concert!

Mona, that October poem was really quite impressive...I have no idea why you got a C first time...I'll have to read it again, it seemed to have quite a few levels.

Bonochick, your poems were the best! They made me laugh so hard!! Tell me, were you writing tongue-in-cheek back then, or were you really, really serious, or a bit of both?

By the way, the smiley I chose is my favourite for now, though you have to watch it for a long time to get it.
