I've had a 'video' for Like A Song and Stranger In A Strange Land in my head for years....

Like A Song always seemed to play out a little like Gloria, a little like A Sort Of Homecoming with the interspersed live footage/political news shots...

Stranger always had a storyline attached, scripted, filmed like a movie... I always saw it in black&white with the odd spot of colour from a streetlight showing yellow or a police car's blue.

Boring I guess.

How to create artistic, sexy vid for a favbut video-orphaned U2 song

If I could make a video for a song that doesn't have one, I think I'd choose Dirty Day. It's always been a favorite song of mine. I think the video would feature lots of Bono looking earnest/innocent/sexy shots. And a few shots of the rest of the band, so fans know that they still exist. I would want to shoot it in Dublin, for authentic flavor. And the day would have to be rainy and overcast, cause Zooropa is my rainy day album. Cool.

If I could remake a video, it would be the Mysterious Ways video. It's a wonderful song and an interesting concept, but I think a lot of the shots are cut too fast, it's distracting. And while I like the mirror wave effect, it's used too much in one part of the video, and hardly at all in others. There are very few good face shots of the band and far too little thrusting Bono. And the colors are ugly. It had a lot of potential, but I personally just don't like it.

New song. Okay. Velvet Dress . Come on you HAVE to agree! Put on Velvet Dress and think about the following:



*an old, white door with ornaments and all is opened* *camera moves through it* *a bluish room, just a bed, a window, a chair maybe...clothes on the ground, some wine glasses on the bedside table, wine glasses on the window sill, bottles, ash trays, a suitcase on the ground, concert outfit of bono (like the bubble pants) over a chair*

Bono is lying in the bed, just wearing jammy pants, bare-chested...A sheet is draped over his hips and half over his upper body. He is tossing around slightly in his bed while he sings, the moon is shining through the window. *camera filming the entire bed, close-up of his lips, messy hair, stubbles*

At some point he gets up and walks to the window, leans against the window frame and looks out of it into the night and at the moon. *close-up of the moon* He bends down and picks up an empty wine glass, sings to it for a moment, lets it fall to the ground. *camera films the fall, glass breaks, close-up of the shards*

He walks back to the bed. Sits down on the edge of it, head in hands. Looks up. At the moon. Shakes his head slowly. *camera moves backwards through the door while the song slowly fades out, Bono's shoulders and pale skin glowing in the dim light* *door is closed*

I agree with you on that one MC - the concept and idea of that video was good, but it never really had "it", the things that make it a great video - unfortunately, 'cause it could have been so good

If I were to do a video - I'd like to make one for "Kite" I think. I don't know exactly how it should be, but I imagine something like this:
Filmed outside in the great irish nature close to the sea, on a cloudy/little bit foggy/windy day... (irish melancholy )
It will start out with child-U2 or the guys own children (I don't know?! ) playing with a kite... Bono is sitting on the grass wathing the children play and singing at the same time.
At at some point the guys comes walking in and the children is not in the video anymore - they find something more exciting to play with and runnes "out of the video" just before the guys comes in. The guys (all four of them - Bono still singing) starts playing with the kite.
At some point towards the end (the last "Who's to say...") Bono stops playing with the kite (still singing - the other tree still playing with the kite), he walks towards the sea and looks out over it and an old man (kind of a white shadow, hard to see his face etc.) walks up behind him and places his hand on Bono's shoulder (Bono do not notice - "can't see" the man, you know, like in the "Stay"-video). The song ends and fade to white...

If I could remake a video it would have to be "I Still Haven't Found..." - I really love the video they made for it back them, believe me!!! (or just look under my avatar )
But I would love to see JT-Bono, -Edge, -Adam and -Larry in a video for that song that had a little more "story" (you know what I mean?!) - a video kind of like Billy Joels "River of dreams"...
