DotPhoto missing pictures explained

I got so fed up that I sent them this email:

Why do my pictures keep getting deleted?? I add them, then
the next day they're gone.

For instance my photo album titled "ME". I uploaded about
15 pictures there and the next day they were ALL GONE.
Why?

Their response:

Hi, If you are linking to a message board, please follow
the following instructions.

The way to do this is to provide the hyperlink to your
message. The only linking allowed, is that of being redirected
to our site. You may not link directly to the image. The
only exception to this rule is for ebay users. If this is
done and it is not linked to ebay, then image and link will be

That explains why mine never disappear until I post them here. I had not posted from my dotphoto in weeks, and I had not lost any pics. A few days ago I posted in several threads, and now all those particular pics have vanished, including my MacPhisto pics. I was thinking maybe I was turned in by someone after they saw the pics I posted. Now I know, it was this BS which SUCKS!!!

That is so stupid and full of crap. BLARGH

I'm moving to Snapfish. Shrunk pics are better than no pics at all!

I use MSN.... just set up a hotmail account, and start a "community" and you create photo albums and post them that way.

Lame ass response! Those bastards! I hardly use dotphoto. I have been using webphotos.com and so far, I have not experienced any problems with posting and them deleting photos out of my accounts. *knock on wood*

Wow! I'm glad I moved my entire collection to alternate sites before any pics got deleted! Try MSN or Webphoto. I've used both and they seem to be fine. They also don't seem to shrink/enlarge photos. I've also used PhotoIsland which seems fine but the pics always seem to turn to red X's the day after I post (I've only tried it twice though) and they have a 10MB limit. Hope that helps.

Oh.. I figured it out!!

You have to upload into the "My Web Documents" folder. It doesnt seem to work when I uploaded to "My Albums".

Great, now I cant remember how I got there. lol.

I've been using msn for a few months with no problems at all. I have posted tons of pics but I do agree about the loooong links. You have to be really careful that you don't miss a letter or number or symbol. Keep trying!

No Sicy, don't load into the web documents folder, load you photos into the My Albums section. Make sure you create an album/albums cause if you store them in the web space, you can't post them here.

Here are the only problems I have had with MSN, watch out for them:

*some of the pics you upload show up as yellow 'homer simpson' looking things, must be deleted and reuploaded
*some pics look okay as a thumbnail, but when you click to enlarge they are only a big white square and a red x! Sometimes deleting and reuploading helps, sometimes it doesn't.
*Some pics look okay, large and small, but for some reason WILL NOT POST! I mean the addy and the 's will show up, but the pic will not materialize. Again, sometimes reuploading helps, some pics just refuse to post. I also noticed this with Bono's American Wife's Love Rocks pics- some of the ones I tried to post from her collection showed up as the addy and [IMG] only, not a redx- most of them were like that. I saved them and uploaded them to mine and then they posted. Did anybody else have that problem, I think I saw one post by Hippy in that thread saying 'never mind won't post' and I noticed that some of you put the pics on your Dotphoto to post them. Bono's American Wife- have you ever noticed any of these problems? What do you do, am I doing something wrong? Help us!
*My biggest problem right now- lack of storage space. Having over 1,600 U2 pics on my hard drive, I was only able to upload close to 900 before my storage limit ran out. I had to go back and be real picky and only keep my favorites- that's hard and no fair waaah!
*Other than these things, it has worked out good and I do hope now that we are all using it and talking about it that nothing 'happens.' (Holds breath, wishes everyone luck)

I did have the Homer Simpson problem when I first starting uploading photos but it hasn't happened at all since then and I didn't know about the problem with other people posting from my album. I have noticed that sometimes when I post here the picture doesn't show up the first time but if I hit reload, it's there. I've never had any of the other problems you've had with picture sizes, etc. Ah crap, why can't we just a find a site that works for ALL of us???? Thanks, Mrs. Bono! I have had problems with my own page too, and when I had problems with those from yours showing up I thought it had to be an MSN thing. Overall it's a very good thing, but I'm afraid by the time we all get one, something will go wrong. SIGH. Could you please post the addy for your page again, I've lost it!

PS- Did you add Mulletking of Oklahoma to your album?

Well, I just tried posting a dotphoto link in EYKIW. All you really have to do is go into your account and click memeber preferences. In there it says "how to link your image to a site" (or something like that), and it provides you with all the links for each of your albums. It will show the FIRST image from your album, so that's a drag, but at least it had a link for someone to click and they get the pic right away.

I looked at webphotos.com, but that place seems to be by invitation only

Will try MSN when I get home. Why does this have to be so COMPLICATED?????????????? It's all so INCREDIBLY annoying.

I sometimes get the red x when I post, but I just click show picture....
