Well I have seen some of you post on this before, and I am worried. I just lost one of my best albums, "Bono photo collection-long haired Bono" because someone turned it in as having copyrighted pics. I would hate to think one of our own had done this, since most of us have Webshots accounts and no one wants to see us lose this ability to post on PLEBA. I was warned to -quote- go through and delete any pic I did not take myself'- that would leave me with a total of two. I think we all have this problem, I mean the U2 pics we upload were taken by others, most of them so far back in time we have no idea who or when. We gain no money from this, it's only for our pleasure and that of the others who read this forum. I was told that if this continues to happen, people will start losing their entire account! This is ridiculous of course, but what should we do girls? First, I hope we can make a pact not to rat each other out, that is really low. Then, we can just hope no one else does. Still, I hope this isn't the beginning of the end of our pic posting here.

Look, where did we get the pics in the first place? From here, and from other websites, many of them now gone. Where did those people who made the sites get them? Same places we do, here and there. Most of the historic pics of U2 are like classic reference, they belong to the ages.

I think we should all discuss this. We should start by not posting our addys any more, it only advertises. I have personally had over 40,000 hits on my page and I'm sure some of you have too. I would be interested in hearing anyone's stories or ideas on this. Come on. This is a problem for us all, whether we have a page or just like to look. Please respond, we need each other's input.

i am so sad to hear about your album sweetie! that shite really stinks, but do you think any one in pleba would have done something so heinous! i sincerely hope not, but i recall something similar happened to disco a few months back. i know she was really upset and let them know it.

i know they (webshots) are going thru some changes right now, but it is ridiculous to try and close ppl down, heck if they'd do that they would cease to exist b/c it seems most of the stuff on the site (esp the communities section) are not originals, but aquired pics from various places!

Thanks Sparky's Girl. Yeah Disco has had problems a couple of times, and MissVelvetDress lost an album a few days ago. If we had to get rid of everything we didn't take we'd all go under. This stinks.
We aren't getting any money, we only want to drool

One more thing in the warning- they said we were not allowed to upload an image of an individual without his personal permission- anybody ever ask U2? Come on, this is awful.

i didn't realize something like that could happen! I don't have a webpage or anything like that...i guess i sort of lived in a world where i believed people could SHARE things...and not to try profit off of every little thing...at other people's expense...guess that's what i get for supporting socialism.

I lost an album as well...the one, ironically, with all the pictures I made myself...it was strange, I had 5 albums and they took the only one that had my own work uploaded in it. I imagine their sweeps are pretty cursory and selective.

My advice has always been and will always be: have two copies of everything. Every picture I save (about 878 of U2 alone) I have on my hard drive AND burned onto a CD. I also have 150 pics on Webshots and all my comics on a webpage, so if lightning struck my house and I lost my both CDs and my CPU I'd at least still have a few things at my immediate disposal.

I can't stress the importance of back-up files enough - a while back I almost lost 10 gigabytes of pictures, MP3s and most importantly my writing to a virus. I was spared, thankfully, but it really gave me a kick in the arse to start having multiple copies of everything I produce or download. The internet is a funny place: you can visit a completely intact website that hasnt been updated since 1994, but when you try to find the pictures of elevated Bono that were posted on PLEBA a week ago, they've vanished into thin air.

Damnit, I come home from having a fun night with my friends and flirting with cute guys and see this horrible post! this is an outrage. I was very mad to see that my album was deleted and it makes me mad to see others are being deleted as well. If I were trying to sell the photos to gain profit or claim that I took them, than I would understand the actions, but since my intentions and PLEBAs intentions are not gain profit but to make us girls happy, this is just simply stupid. I thankfully have my photos on my hard drive, and I am now thinking about storing them on a CD just so I do not lose any of them. Are there any other websites that will allow you to store photos without being punished? If there are, we need to know ASAP.

This happened to me, too. Concert photos I took myself got taken down. I wrote for an explanation but never got one....If anyone finds a better photo-hosting site, please let the rest of us know.

OMG KITTEN!!!!

NO WAY!!!!

Oh. I forgot. This is Webshots we're talking about, the bastards.

I am continuously worried about my own albums out there...I go to great lengths to caption my pictures with "COURTESY OF _____" or "BORROWED FROM _____" if I do happen to post a picture from another source not my own (which, DUH, is about 99% of all my pictures)

It pisses me off that Webshots is playing God in this situation. I mean, I can understand why they do it, but warn us first, let us know that you did it, and maybe we would take down the picture ourselves. I've done this several times already.

But being that this is the INTERNET, it's becoming next to impossible to keep track of who's pictures are whose, ESPECIALLY where U2 is concerned! I would *never* rat on someone, even when I KNOW they've taken a picture from my own albums, because why??? What's the point? Sure it would be nice to have THE ONLY picture of a certain person or event, but here's my view: once it's outon the web - it's fair game (to a point). It's nearly impossible to keep pictures from getting borrowed, that's the nature of the internet! Case in point, I must have 40-50 albums of 35 pictures in each, if not more, and I sure as hell don't want all that work to go wasted.

I wish I knew what to do in this case...but I don't know if there is much of *anything* we can do!

Try sending them an email??? I know I did but of course they never responded. But if more people sent them emails, maybe they'd at least get a clue.

About two weeks ago, I had 6 albums deleted. I thought it was just me, but I guess not. Until then, I was making sure to keep my account up to date with all the new pics I would get, but what's the point now, if one day you can come in and find out that some of them have been deleted. I can't even remember what pics I had in some of my albums, and they are now in the depths of all my other pics on my hard drive. There's not even a point for me to try and figure it out. It would be much to difficult and they would just get deleted again since they are "copyrighted". This sucks. If someone knows of another site that's like Webshots, but not as annoying, please let me know.

Thanks everybody. I'm sorry so many of us have lost them, and I am really at a loss now to hear some of you have lost your very own work and pics, weird! I still have them all on my hard drive so I hope it doesn't crash but what good is that if we can't have a place with an addy that is postable here? Like we say, MVD, we are NOT profiting from this, we only want to have a way to post pics and to collect all of them in one place so we can go there when we need them. Right Disco, it is the internet, and there is no way to keep track of them and even know where most of them came from. I also try to credit everyone I know took a pic. What I don't get is my album that was deleted was all old 80's pics, most of them classics you see everywhere, it certainly wasn't costing anyone anything. There is a place at the bottom of the page to click to 'turn in' copyright infringement, and when I clicked on it it said you had to prove it by showing them either the publication it came from or the name on the pic itself. The only one in my lost album who could do that would be U2 Mansion, maybe they are turning us in, but that doesn't explain the ones with your own artwork and pics! Also, how can U2Mansion complain, all they did was what we did, they don't own those pics, they just put them all on their site and stamped their name on them.

I am very sorry to hear everyone's story, and I appreciate the support of you and those of you who just like to look. I am with everyone who says if there is another site let us know! Disco, you have me beat, you have more albums than anyone and I don't want your work, or mine or anyone's to go to waste. We 'wasted' so much time putting those together, it's terrible to think that we could sign in one day and they would all be *sniff* gone. This sucks so bad.
frown.gif

(((HUGS))) and thanks to all of you. Good luck to us all.

YOWZA!! Sorry to visit this so late. I can't believe this has happened to all of you! I have an account, but I don't *think* anyone knows the address. They certainly haven't deleted any of mine yet, knock on wood.

I have all my pics on the hard drive, but maybe I'll save them to a CD while I'm at it. What a TOTAL BORE!!!

Um......well....while we're talking about Webshots....I was going through the "Most Popular" photos....and....em....well....o never mind. I can't post it. *traumatized*!!

Wow Mona it must have been really bad, I shudder to think! Me and you, we have Snapfish, and so far I have had nothing deleted have you? I think it's because it has no public access so no one sees them
biggrin.gif
Maybe you girls should switch, but there is a downside- Snapfish SHRINKS your pics!

Still it's better than losing them.

I hate to say this girls but the only way to stop it may be to *sob* go back and click 'no' on public viewing of our albums. (We should at least click 'no' on 'allow others to order prints' so they will know we are making no money from them) I love sharing my pics, and bragging on my colllection, and I like my page and everyone else's being a source for EVERYBODY to post from, but if we did shut out the public we could be guarnteed the wrong people would never look and rat us out. I won't act until I hear from you girls. What do you say?

I had my delted webshots album listed as private and it still got deleted. i have two other albums that are private and currently they have not been touched. To play it safe, I think I am going to try and use snapfish.

I'm sorry MVD. So they delete it even if it's private and even if it's your own stuff? This is terrible having to be nervous that any time we go for our pics they might be gone? I don't blame anyone who leaves webshots. They are the easiest and best but what good is it if you can't rely on having your pics when you want them?

that is what i have done with my stuff u2kitten...allowing only invited ppl to access your album is the best way.

Thanks Sparky's Girl! How do you do that? Do you check private and then invite friends? That's great, then we could invite each other to come post from our albums and no one else can get in! MissVelvetDress said she had one deleted that was marked private, have you ever had any trouble? Thanks for your help!
smile.gif

Hi girls-
Well, first off I want to say that I have seen your album, U2kitten, and this is quite a shame. Just opened up my e-mail and found the same damn e-mail. I had put up 15 pics that my cousin took in LA at the show, and they deleted them. At first I thought it was just me too, then I remembered that I had seen this thread, and here I am. Ya know, maybe Mom's right, she doesn't like me having my pics up for anyone to see either, but I still want to be able to see your albums. Its fun to share pics. damn I loved Webshots-this is not good~ Let me know if we can all invite eachother to our albums...
Kinda creepy, from their e-mail they say "someone has reported this fraud" who in the hell would do that? It's not like its their pic- I only had 4 albums, 3 are all pics I have taken myself, and those were left alone, so if I would have just created the album without putting "taken by my cousin Alison" then they wouldn't have deleted them? This sucks
frown.gif

Anyways, discuss this more so we can figure out a way to share our pics atleast with eachother. This is why its so hard finding pics from shows, most people probably make the albums private.
If everyone makes them private, we'll have no more pics to look at!
Ok, I may be freaking out, but this is really strange! what should we do???

Kitten, I am so sorry to hear about that. It sucks.

A few weeks back I started using Webshots. I had 6 albums, and well over 200 pictures that I had taken from various sources: web pages, other webshots accounts, and even from Pleba. One day I went to add more pictures, and they were all gone!! They sent me the same email that Kitten recieved. Since then I have started adding a few more pictures. What I did was I captioned all of my pictures like this "This picture was taken from Kelly's awesome U2 webpage". Hopefully the flattery will be enough that someone won't rat me out!!!

Thanks U2SJ and Spinninghead77. I am sorry about your pics too. I always try to credit the person if I know who took it, and have even put my email in the album description welcoming anyone who has a problem to email me about it! I will gladly give them credit, or take it off if they want. The weirdest thing is, they were not new concert pics but old 80's pics, most of them classics you see everywhere with no name on them other than I2Mansion and like I said all they did was stamp it on like everyone with websites do, they don't own it either. I think webshots had some kind of 'raid' but I can't understand they things they took! Echo's own drawings, U2SJ's cousins pics, and everything! I agree U2SJ, someone would have to be really low to rat us out! I have had 43,000 views of my page, and I am proud of it and want everyone to see it, but someone in there was the wrong person. I guess we are gonna have to stop our public viewing and find a way to invite each other and the other PLEBA girls who want to use our albums to post from. I have posted from some of your albums and people post from mine too. I have never tried the invite thing and don't know how it works, but if anyone wants an invite email me at u2kitten@yahoo.com. We can still share with each other, and maybe everyone can make their own collection. I wonder if it would make a difference to webshots to know that we are just a club of girls wanting to share pics with each other and we are not stealing anyone's money! Why does that always have to come into it and ruin everything?
frown.gif

May everyone's pic collections hold out for the holidays, maybe they will leave us alone for now I hope! Best wishes everyone!

Important message: After losing two more albums, one a replacement of the original long haired Bono album plus 'Good Looking Bono pics' I have no other option but to lock up my collection and make it private
frown.gif

Over 42,000 people have viewed it and obviously one or more were the wrong people. I really hate to do this, I was so proud of my collection and wanted to show it off! I also wanted it to be a source that EVERYONE here could post from and I know some of you did!

So Sherry, Sweetest_Thing, and anyone else who wants access to my pics for posting or looking please email me at:

u2kitten@yahoo.com

and I will gladly send you a personal invitation. Then you can save the email and access the page anytime you need it. I feel terrible about locking up my pics and I hope no one thinks I did it to be crappy, I'm just tired of losing my pics and fearing what will disappear next. Please email me if you want the pics.

Yes, this does majorly bite.
frown.gif

I mean, a couple of weeks ago, I got a letter from our "dear friends at webshots" saying one of my photos had infringed upon copyright laws and they deleted it, without telling me which one...i went to my page and it was a cute Edge one.
mad.gif

I mean, I went to webshots cuz Fotki wouldn't let you post pics or link to them without paying. There's like nothing left.

This pisses me off royally. I never gave my page to anyone, but it was public. All we want to do is spread the U2 love and post pictures for our friends here at Interference to see, or at other places.

Sigh

Hi all...

Have any of you been having problems with webshots where none of your pictures are displaying, and all you're getting is a little red box? That's what's happening to me... even my personal album with my family pictures and stuff is being displayed as a red box.
frown.gif

I noticed that a few of my posts from last week that had pictures in it are now displaying a red box.

What gives with Webshots? I got a letter not too long ago about it being bought out by some other company because Webshots was owned by Excite.com and Excite.com went bankrupt. I wonder if this has anything to do with the problems Webshots has been giving us?

I'm going to start looking around to see if there are any other picture hosting sites...

By the way... I have always had my albums listed as private and I'm still having problems, too. I think there's something going on - I have this bad feeling that webshots is going to close down without much notice... it may have a lot to do with the fact that Excite.com went bankrupt and someone else bought out the webshots company. Who knows? We may be suddenly asked to pay to keep our albums.

Does Yahoo allow you to post your pictures to PLEBA? I know Yahoo has an album option.

Moonie - who's pissed off, too...

Know what sucks about that Snapfish site? It will only accept JPEG format which means so many of the GIF and BITMAP pics may be lost.
