He was recently named European of the Year, so it's only right
that Bono's back in Europe after spending most of the year in
the U.S. The band returned home with sacks full of cash
(figuratively speaking), having cleaned up to the tune of $200
million on their "Elevation Tour." But while Bono plans to spend
Christmas in Ireland, we hear that he's planning to host a New
Year's Eve party at his swanky NYC apartment. (What?
You didn't get your invitation yet?)

they are going to be preforming for the ABC special but its going to be pre-recorded(or so Ive heard).

i actually live just 5 blocks from bono's apartment in new york. but i would NEVER go near the place! sounds like quite a party, though- i wonder if all his band-mates will be there....

I think that he does this on New Years Day outside somewhere in the freezing cold water to cleanse himself and start anew for the new year. That is what I heard!!

well this has nothing to do w/ new years, but everything to do w/ Bono being a party boy. found this article somewhere on the web:

BONO IS A SPLASH HIT AT ELTON'S PAD

It was the battle of the bands as rock and pop went to war. The scene was EIton John's villa in the south of France and the
protagonists were U2 heavyweight Bono versus the Pet Shop Boys.

The private dinner with EIton at his plush Nice pad had provoked some lively debate among the illustrious guests as to the merits
of pop and rock.

Full of the joys of his host's hospitality, Bono stepped out on to the balcony of chez EIton after dinner and peered down into the pool. It obviously seemed like a golden opportunity for the U2 singer to give the
boys of pop a demonstration of some macho rock 'n' roll antics.

Splash!

Bono took a dare-devil dive from the balcony, landing with a loud splash in
the water below. However, Neil Tennant of the Pet ShopBoys decided to fly the pop flag by quickly following the rock god over the balcony and into the pool. Bono seemed 'suitably impressed. "Rock l, Pop 1", he declared, as the pair emerged unscathed.
Tennant laughs as he relates the story to the Suri-day World when we meet in the German city of Cologne.
