Thank you for all the great pictures, Bono looks really gorgeous!

Maybe we'll have a Bono/Juanes duet soon.

EYKIW will implode.

The "one" tee shirt is so cool in Japanese! Thanks for all the pictures.:)

Because it's not "One" at all. It actually means "Human", and it's a Chinese character. Therefore it's kind of funny if you give it a second thought...

Thanks Emma for these wonderful pics from Japan. Here is the reason for them:

Irish rockers Bono, Geldof edit special Africa edition for Japanese newspaper

TOKYO - It isn't enough for Irish rockers Bono and Bob Geldof to be in the news. Now they want to edit it too.

The ubiquitous U2 frontman and fellow musician Geldof were guest editors at Japan's second-largest newspaper, the Asahi, on Friday to help organize a special edition on anti-poverty activists' favorite subject: Africa.

The eight-page section on African society, economy and politics features in the Saturday edition, which has an audience that would make even a superstar's mouth water _ a circulation of 8 million.

"Lots of people in this building are closet rock stars _ they stand up in the mirror and play air guitar," Bono told reporters at the Asahi building. "Well, myself and Bob, we're closet journalists."

Bono and Geldof, who organized the 1985 Band Aid and 2005 Live 8 concerts for African causes, dove into the late afternoon editorial meeting in downtown Tokyo, suggesting layouts, counseling graphic artists and picking photos.

At one point, the pair _ in Japan to attend a conference on aid to Africa _ sat down with editors and made their case that Japan should significantly boost its aid and investment to the continent.

"It's the only game in town," said Geldof, arguing that Africa would experience great growth in the coming century. "It's the only place yet to be built, but you're not there. Why?"

Indeed, Japan has watched on as China has made strides in forging relationships with African nations, some of them highly criticized, such as Beijing's arms sales to the Sudanese government.

"You're more moral in your relationships," said Bono of Japan, comparing it to China's deals with "despots." To emphasize that point, he and Geldof brought a design featuring the red circle of Japan's rising sun flag with the white outline of a heart inside it.

The two also said they used the opportunity to urge journalists to be more forward-looking in their reportage on Africa, focusing on the expansion of technology and education on the continent rather than slums and despair.

Geldof, for instance, edited the work of an Asahi graphics artist as "old-fashioned," urging instead the inclusion of images of cell phones and laptops with information on the continent's 6 percent annual economic growth.

"Really we're trying to reframe the stories about Africa, most of which
historically are tragic," Bono said. "We would like to turn this around a bit and make the stories about opportunity and the adventure of the African continent, not the burden and the obligation."
