Don't know if this has been posted before but Cinema Judge has an episode on Across the Universe, part of which is at this youtube link:

The full episode is on google video but the link is too long to try to post. It does have a smidgeon more Bono than the 10 min thing on YouTube but not much.

I read somewhere that the character of Dr Roberts is based on Neal Cassidy, so I looked it up and came across these pics of the bus Furthur.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furthur

Looks just like the bus in the Across the Universe clip eh?

Neal Cassidy was the bus driver, luckily they didn't let Bono take that job as well

Thank you greety- great info here. At the second sentence you can click on Merry Pranksters, it gives some very interesting insight as to what this bus tour was about ....wow, what a time 1964 was (I was only 4 yrs old).

If this was my movie, Bono and the bus would have had a much larger part ... having an "enlightened experience" with him -the film would wind up with an x rating(sorry non plebans).

AND can you imagine LSD was legal til 1966

Acid seems to have been prescribed to patients by psychologists and psychiatrists for a time. I know Cary Grant took it a few times in the '50s for such reasons.

Synopsis...
"Across the Universe" is ... more
"Across the Universe" is a love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n roll, moving from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude and Lucy, along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with "Dr. Robert" and "Mr. Kite" as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy--against all odds--to find their own way back to each other. hide

FOR Long Island Plebans looking to see Across the Universe
together:
I did a search for Sept 23 to see about Commack Multiplex and these are the theatres that came up- so far. I'll recheck around Friday.

(Should this have gone in Dr Robert thread in PLEBANS?)

To BonoFox1

Those smilies in your signature are really masterpieces!
How you do that? Is it easy to do things like that?
And there's a previous version of those hippi smilies, could you post it again?

Very much a favourite of mine too... though I don't think his LSD-use was entirely by his own choice. Actually, I think the therapy had something to do with the loss/departure of his parents at a fairly early age... anyway, I'm getting a tad off topic here, I just think the earlier history of LSD and such is quite interesting.

OMG! Just downloaded I am the Walrus and LITSWD!
Seeing him do those two in this film is worth the ticket price alone IMO. I must see it this weekend.
