Can't thank you enough for the photos, the links, and the comments in this thread! They really meant a lot to me as well as many others. There really are good and decent U2 fans around. You've done Interference proud!

Thanks everyone for all the great pictures and links.

Here is a link to a web site that I found interesting. Instead of donating money (wich is not really helping) you can buy a family a pig or goat to help make some income. Does anyone know if this is a good way to go about that?

I've done consulting for this organization--absolutely a great way to support sustainable development

On the same topic of giving, there have been many, many successful initiatives in getting insecticide-treated mosquito nets to people in rural areas. You can make a small donation to the UN Foundation (and many other groups, like UNICEF, have done campaigns) and make a real difference in people's lives:

Sweaty Bono....:shifty:

Brian Williams has updated his blog again, with more on Bono:

http://dailynightly.msnbc.com/2006/05/long_days_journ.html#below-fold

If you need a laugh, be sure to read the bit about the sound guy falling into the swimming pool :giggle:

Also, the Nightly News has finished up here, and I imagine NBC will have a stream of the segment by tomorrow. It was a good segment, and hopefully Americans who don't normally pay attention to this kind of thing, but do watch the Nightly News, will learn a thing or two.
Also, I'm sure I'm not alone in being extremely touched by how happy Bono seems to be around all of the African children he meets. I must say, there's nothing so adorable as Bono playing thumb war with a small child (especially considering that just four days ago, we had Bono-thumb-war captions in the caption thread, thanks to Lemon Grrrrrl)

EDIT: Even better:

NBC NIGHTLY NEWS NETCAST
You can now watch NBC Nightly News on your computer every weeknight after 10 p.m. ET.

Thanks for that! I couldn't resist leaving a comment on that blog, but it'll take a while to appear from the moderation queue

Your post made it . As did mine, complete with a grammatical error I just spotted :reject:.

These posts are moderated?

Seems to me they need mass sterilazation and a good civil war to over throw the government that has squandered the money we have sent them.

ugh

Oh, I see you saw that one too. Great response and post, Evie .

Ugh, I know  I feel like whapping some of those commenters with every press release that ONE has ever done before they make any more comments like that. And yeah, if the posts are moderated, god knows how THAT one made it :|

Thanks Kelly! I sometimes get on my soapbox if provoked :reject:

Good posts everyone :applaud:

I hate the “sure it’s nice what Bono is doing over there but charity begins at home”
Such a lame excuse to do nothing - not to mention the “us vs. them” argument is a bit counterproductive to a global community

Earlier in the thread there is a link where you can watch it online (after 10 p.m. ).

I'm trying to get the url of the stream so Gg or someone with a streaming downloader can nab it for us, lol. My uni internet connection isn't allowing me to do that anymore :madspit:

I agree. That argument angers me the most.

It has been a long day -- two nations, one flight, many tribal chiefs and rainfall here tonight of Biblical proportions. All the while I've had my first exposure to a 46-year-old Irish rock star who moves with great ease through this world and has devoted so much of his life of late to this cause.
