"I went to see U2 in LA,' she breaths in her
excitable, gently Americanised South London Lilt. "Oh,
they were so good. It was very emotionalhearing all
those songs again. Stuck In A Moment You Cant Get Out
Of, the one about Michael [Hutchence], is so moving,
and One always makes me cry. They should make Bono
president. Its not impossible, lets see what happens
in ten years' time." She bursts out laughing, a rich,
fruity cackle.
"And it was lovely to see Adam," she beams.
Adam Clayton, U2's bass guitar player, was briefly
engaged to Noami in 1993. It was during this heavy
period, the bands infamous and surreal Zoo TV tour,
that I first encountered the supermodel. Our
introduction was an unusual one in as much as it was
eight o'clock in the morning and Noami was compleylt
naked. " I remember that," she says, displaying for
the first time an alarmingly keen memory. "It was just
outside Verona in Italy and the hotel was almost
falling down. Nothing worked.? I was sunbathing by the
pool with Christy [Turlington]. We didnt have anything
on, but we didnt think anyone, especially one of the
u2 party, would be up. Most of them had just gone to
bed."
Her reaquaintance with Clayton was, she reports
affectionatly, a delight. "Hes becoming more
eccentric," she smiles. "Like some old english
general, but he is so lovely. Hes always been
eccentric though. Remember that sarong he insisted on
wearing all the time? I had to hide it in the end. But
we had brunch and hes in the best shape. I love him
and Ill always love him. I'm so glad that I'm friends
with all my ex-boyfriends. I mean they're all a part
of my lifeand alot of them are great people.
