I think I remember seeing that picture a year or two ago, so I don't think it's new. Winter clothes!

Okay, Eve has the darker hair and taller, right? I honestly don't pay much attention to them. And they are photographed together like once or twice a year.

Bono's a bit bundled up for mid-60's temps.

Yeah, I was beginning to think that too that they might be too well warped up. Living in up here in the far north I forget it gets warmer sooner in NY/Dublin! We still had snow on the ground just 2 weeks ago,and cold forsty nights just a few days ago!

The pic is definitely old. I remember it too. (There were a bunch of them all out walking that day I believe.)

It's an old picture. But, damn, does Eve look like young Bono here or what?

And I was also suprised reading about Jordan graduating. She's 23, right? Isn't that a bit early to be graduating from university? I know it would be a bit early here where I live. She seems to have studied really fast.

^^Here in the states, if you enter college ( as we say ) at 18 after high school, you should be 22 or 23 when you complete your Bachelor degree ( 4years) but ofcourse many take much longer to graduate or get that degree!

Ah, thanks.

I graduated at 25 but I finished school at 19 and started with university immediatly afterwards.
However, that was some time ago and in the meantime things changed and students nowadays are able to finish their studies at an earlier age and in less time.
It took me one additional year to write my thesis, still, 25 was considered quite "early".
I had a scholarship and was supported financially, at least partly, by my dad, which meant that I didn't have to work as much as other students while at university, thus I was able to finish my studies quite quickly.

When I returned to university about a year ago in order to study art history while on an educational leap from work, I was quite suprised to find that almost all studies were cut down to 2 or 3 years in order to adjust the system to the EU standards.
We didn't have any Bachelor degrees when I was studying, you could only have an ordinary academic diploma and a doctor title afterwards.
Now you have BA and MA titles, the system has changed a lot.
I also think the quality has changed, it's become more superficial, at least that's the impression I'm getting now. You are basically rushed through your studies and they cut most of the more interesting stuff.

a doctorate/PhD is a different thing though LU - that would be at least 2 more years on top of an undergraduate degree - so around 24/25 would be the right age for getting a doctorate (depending on the length of the undergraduate degree as well)...

Yes, but 24/25 here is too early for a doctorate degree. Most students haven't even graduated at that age.

Most people I know were in their late twenties or early thirtees when they got their doctorate.

Thinking about it, I'm still sad I haven't been able to get mine due to so many other projects and trainings

My husband is 30 and just started his masters. I don't know any 25 year old doctorates other than people that were child geniuses (graduated much earlier than normal) and fast-tracked through their masters into a fellowship program. Usually a masters is 2-3 more years after undergrad (depending on how many classes you take at a time, lots of people work full time and take only one class at a time in the evening), and THEN you can start on a doctorate program.

Yes, that sounds about right. I finished my masters when I was 27 (took me 2 years to complete) and then entered a doctoral program. Everyone I knew there was in their late twenties or early thirties.

It's none of my business, but it will be fun to see what path Jordan takes. I am sure she will become an activist of some sort like her Mom and Dad.

is he studying part-time though Liesje? normally in the UK you start a master's straight after uni, at around age 22, depending on how long your undergraduate programme was (the norm is 3-4 years full-time in the UK)

maybe it's different in the States, but some friends of mine completed their PhDs in 2-3 years straight after graduating... (without doing a master's in between though, but a masters would only add a year full-time, two years part-time) - ahh ok i've just re-read your post properly and realised it's not based on full-time education - no wonder it takes so much longer then...)

actually, it could be just a UK thing, as people in France cannot believe how qualified Brits are at such an early age in certain professions, because in France it also takes many more years to qualify...

i completed my 4-year Bsc at age 23, then studied postgrad after that for a year too... so completely finished my studies aged 24 and launched into my chosen profession... that was nothing out of the ordinary though - i.e. i wasn't a child genius LOL - also, this was 20 years ago, so the programmes may no longer be the same! i reckon the UK will move more towards the US model as it's got so expensive to study there now - when i was a student, we didn't have to pay for tuition fees, still had maintenance grants, student loans were only just starting to come in (but for living expenses only as the State still covered tuition fees), and we could survive on our grants and just top up with weekend/evening jobs so could stay in full-time education quite easily... it's so much harder for kids now though sadly...
