Should be a heavy show tonight now, huh?

With Pope John Paul passing on, I imagine that there's going to be some extra weight to tonight's show.

Yahweh>'40' could be one of the most emotional renderings yet.

And look for Psalm 116 (is that right?) to make it's return to Streets tonight as well.

Soak this one in.

i like the idea of the return of the Psalm to the start of the "Streets".... i think they should play "gloria", as well.

they should do MLK into Streets like the super bowl.

not just for tonight, it would be so fitting and beautiful, but every night. Better than Pride.

what is the full text of Psalm 116 ??

Psalm 116
I love GOD because he listened to me, listened as I begged for mercy.

He listened so intently

as I laid out my case before him.

Death stared me in the face,

hell was hard on my heels.

Up against it, I didn't know which way to turn;

then I called out to GOD for help:

"Please, GOD!" I cried out.

"Save my life!"

GOD is gracious--it is he who makes things right,

our most compassionate God.

GOD takes the side of the helpless;

when I was at the end of my rope, he saved me.

I said to myself, "Relax and rest.

GOD has showered you with blessings.

Soul, you've been rescued from death;

Eye, you've been rescued from tears;

And you, Foot, were kept from stumbling."

I'm striding in the presence of GOD,

alive in the land of the living!

I stayed faithful, though bedeviled,

and despite a ton of bad luck,

Despite giving up on the human race,

saying, "They're all liars and cheats."

What can I give back to GOD

for the blessings he's poured out on me?

I'll lift high the cup of salvation--a toast to GOD!

I'll pray in the name of GOD;

I'll complete what I promised GOD I'd do,

and I'll do it together with his people.

When they arrive at the gates of death,

GOD welcomes those who love him.

Oh, GOD, here I am, your servant,

your faithful servant: set me free for your service!

I'm ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice

and pray in the name of GOD.

I'll complete what I promised GOD I'd do,

and I'll do it in company with his people,

In the place of worship, in GOD's house,

in Jerusalem, GOD's city.

Hallelujah!

I believe it is usually psalm 130 that is read upon death.

I'm sure these songs will be in the set, maybe the whole show will be dedicated to the Pope. Bono isn't Catholic (alot of people think he is, but he was baptized and confirmed in the Church of Ireland, the Anglican congregation of Ireland), but he was very fond of this pope, who did support many anti-poverty and humanitarian causes.

I have mixed feelings. On one side, I would like to be part of it... but, on the other side, my sense is that I am not in the mood for a U2 concert tonight.

With that said, I am sure that the boys will pay the great John Paul II the tribute that he deserves...

wow i dont think i have ever heard anyone say there not in the mood for a U2 concert :s

Would be a nice moment if Bono pulled an Eddie Vedder and came out before the set by himself (or at least with Edge) and played a couple of acoustic songs in honor of the pope. That would separate it from the rest of the show and make it somewhat more personal.

Bono said this tonight:

"The best front man the Catholic Church ever had. A great show man, a great communicator of ideas even if you didn't agree with all of them, a great friend to the world’s poor which is how I got to meet him. Without John Paul II its hard to imagine the Drop the Debt campaign succeeding as it did."
