And you're trying to tell me EBTTRT is better lyrically than COBL? Come on. You might as well tell me that TTYW is the lyrically best song on JT.

Oh come on, well all know the playboy mansion is better lyrically than COBL

EBTTRT's lyrics are great. They roll of the tongue whereas COBL's seem forced and tired outside of the chorus and bridge - again my OPINION.

my heart is where it's always been, my head is somewhere in between, give me one more chance...

And I'm up far too late. Bedtime. Goodnight.

I love the guitar riff on In A Little While.

I loved it live on the 'Elevation' tour, dedicated to Joey Ramone. They played it at the tip of the heart. Bono motioning like he was pushing the pram. And me on the floor, somewhere 10-15 deep from the rail. Loved it! Slow down my beating heart....

Zoo Station is probably one of the most interesting songs that U2 has ever done, because it's essentially an abstract, explaining Achtung Baby. I love the lyrics. Even Better Than The Real Thing is a step down from Zoo Station, but its lyrics are interesting as well.

We all know that City Of Blinding Lights has some pretty good lyrics too -- "Time won't take the boy out of this man" is one of the best ones on the album, bu I don't think you can say that it flogs Zoo Station and Even Better Than The Real Thing.

Zoo Station makes a point very clearly and suits its time period. But the continual "I'm ready" and "it's alright" repetition costs it. And while Numb thrives on the "don't ..." lines, Zoo Station could use a bit more variety than just continual examples of what Bono's ready for.

And EBTTRT is lyrically one of my most disliked U2 songs, besides the "you're free to fly in the crimson sky" verse. I'd say most songs flog it.

Didn't this used to be a setlist thread? Do we have one? A final setlist, that is?

btw...I love In a Little While and Sweetest Thing :reject:

TTTYATW and IALW are both very much alike. Their songs Bono wrote about hangovers...hmmm...I don't think their supposed to be brilliant pieces of music. I think their just fun songs they threw on the album. And I like them both.

And I really don't know why. Both are wastes of album space. I'll enjoy them if I'm in the mood, but they sure aren't exceptional songs.

Re: Sweetest Thing. I'm one of the rare people who seems to like the updated version more than the original.

Zoo Station loses points because of repetition? Despite the fact that it fits in perfectly with the song?

At least he's saying something instead of just going Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh over and over again, like in City Of Blinding Lights.

soo....i guess this became a ranking album thread. but i hope they did play oots. gosh i love that song. so anybody have an inside scoop that could tell us the setlist. it seemed to stop after city of blinding lights:huh:

I'm with you on that one trish0860! Saw them play it live in L.A. last tour - Bono played keyboards and his 'baby was in the house' (a pregnant Ally)

im with you axver, updated sweetest thing is great. It's a shame, because b-sides around are often better than album tracks....

You know why it is, right? I have no clue what people are talking about half the time. I sit there trying to puzzle out what song is being discussed, and I either give up or spend too much time doing so...

Bono's ready. We get the point. As I said, the lyrics make their point very well; they just aren't very creative. But that's the story of AB for me - lyrical mountains (Acrobat, The Fly, UTEOTW) and valleys (Zoo Station, EBTTRT, TTTYAATW, Ultra Violet's chorus).

And your second paragraph is just plain silly.

Screw the setlist, the bitchin' rocks!

Maybe we should just agree to disagree, put on JT - the one album I'm sure we can all agree is good! - and get back to the damn set!

Same here. Except I don't mind OOTS because that one is easier for me to remember for some reason.

Honestly, I think that Joshua Tree is overrated. A lot of those songs don't do it for me on the album, even if they're great live.

My favorite album cut: Exit.

"time is a train, makes the future the past.
Leaves you standing in the station, you're face pressed up against the glass."

This line alone makes "Zoo Station" an absolute classic.

I could write an essay based on the depth of that line.

I wait impatiently for the setlist......I hope they played original. You lift me up out of the pits, out of the setlist forum. How long time we know the setlist? How long til we know the setlist? How long? How long?

I thought Sweetest Thing live was pretty good. They reworked it even from the single mix. I loved the intro live. I'm running to the defense of Trying to throw your arms around the world. I think it is a fantastic song. I love the Dali verse. It works great live and was a highlight of the Zoo TV show. It is the most Joshua Tree sounding off of Achtung Baby.

No acronyms.
