getting into the GA line late

does anyone have any experience with getting into the GA line late? i've gotta work on one of my GA days and won't make it into line until 5-6pm and am worried that i'll be left standing along the back wall of the venue.

also, since i'm a fan club member, when have they been splitting up the line between fan club & general GA?

thanks! :)

Hanging out at the back of the floor isn't bad at all. There's room to move around and the sound is better there than anywhere else. Plus the crew guys have been known to come by and slap ellipse arm bands on people at the back.

maybe you need to be a premium member... also, this site doesn't like certain links as we've discovered. maybe one of the mods can explain this better than I.

how's the view from way back there? is the sound ok?

ummm...go to the photos section and checkout any pictures of the show. the catwalk-thing that looks like a circle--that's the ellipse. it was a heart during the elevation tour.

Correct, you have to be a premium member to have a signature.

And the links you cant post are those ending in audio or video file name extensions. Photos are fine.

I arrived late to one show and stood in the back. Couldn't see a friggin' thing but watched the show on the screens and danced and had a good time. I would have been disappointed had it been the only show but since I saw a few I just embraced it as yet another U2 experience and it was one I had not had before.

But ideally, this is when the lottery system should work. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

It was probably around 6:15-6:30. Wouldn't be that different at 5:00, though.

I worked the day of Chicago IV and didn't get in the fan club line until 5:45 or so...I would guess there were at least 100 people in front of me. I got beeped in and my friend and I ended up 2nd/3rd person back from the rail right in front of Adam. I have to say I felt guilty for getting so close and so many that waited in the crap weather didn't. (still thinks the lottery sucks even though I benefited from it.)

GA was not the U2 buzz word in the states prior to Elevation, though always a buzz word in the more general concert lingo world.

I stood next to a girl outside the tip of the ellipse who had also seen U2 from the tip of the heart and had no idea what GA meant or anything about the GA line. Both times she was the guest of some VIP people, was just escorted to those spots, and just apparently had very good karma.

my point was more that she has seen them "a lot" (according to her info) and yet she says she's a new fan. you'd think if she's seen them a lot, she'd at least know the title of the song "the fly" and would understand what ga means. unless she went in a cave in 89 and just recently woke up.

GA Late comer

Is it worth it to have GAs if you can't show up to the show until 7:00 or 7:30pm? Is that too late for a good spot? Do they let GA folk inside that late? Pleas elet me know...

weekday shows you should have a decent spot ... saturday or friday shows you will be pretty far back ... and yes they still do scan for the ellipse

I didn't arrive until 7:30pm in Chicago. They stil scanned me for the ellipse, no luck though. You'll be fine. You'd be surprised, but a fair amount of people don't go onto the floor until 20 minutes or so before U2 comes on stage. It doesn't mean you'll be close, but you still have a chance to get in the ellipse at the door.
