How to record a show?

Hi
Going to 3 shows in the UK and I wnat to record them in high quality.

What kind of equipment do I need? I am looking at portable DAT recorders and it looks like everyone else is using those.

They look pretty expensive so I will probably have to borrow or rent one.

Are they easy to use and to connect to the computer? Also do you have to hold them up or can you like stick them to your chest and hope the mic records it decently?

I've never taped a show, but I know it's not cheap if you want to do it right.
