Bono was wrong!

Anyone else notice that Bono goofed on opening night in San Diego? When he is intorducing "40" he says "We haven't played this one since '83" - I heard them sing it in Boston Garden's on the JT tour back in '87... Anyone else remember times since '83 that it has been performed?

They closed the entire Unforgettable Fire Tour in '85 with it.

Several. I think its been about 30 +. It was done extensively through the JT tour. And a touch on Lovetown. It was done twice on PopMart (just Bono & Edge) and there was obviously the snippet fest on Elevation.

So a lot.

'40' was played at most Joshua Tree shows, If not all...MOST of them.

'40' was last played before this tour in Rotterdam, at the end of the LoveTown tour......oh and they did it a couple of times on PopMart.

But how many of the above were FULL BAND versions, not snippets? Bono is obviously referring to when they last played the full arrangement of the song. And yes, he does get it wrong sometimes

Was '83 the last time they did it with Edge on bass and Adam on the guitar, maybe? Or did they ~always~ do it like that?

bono is notorious for changing the length of time since a song has been played ... he used to say the same thing with 11 O'clock tick tock last tour and so on , , , i think it's a joke

I don't think Bono really pays attention to the nitty gritty details....and I don't really see why he'd go look up the exact year or date to be honest.

Give or take a few years on the song, it was still a big deal and that's the main point he was trying to convey.

It was the full band in '87 with edge on bass and adam on guitar... I agree with everyone, it doesn't really matter at all. I just happened to notice and wondered what was up...

If I were performing night after night , I would probably not remember alot of things that I say or have said. And I do remember that every show I saw in 87 they played 40. I was suppose to be in NYC tomorrow but I had to change the date until Nov so I am really having withdrawls now. Yikes!:eek laugh:

Yes that's when I last heard it - people were singing it in the parking lot afterwards.

Bono remembers everything he has ever said and to whom he said it to. He also remembers every face in the crowd, and every place he has visited. He just doesn't remember LYRICS.

I read in a book written about fans once that if you were to put a rock star and their fan on a quiz show about that star's career, the fan would win hands down every time. No way would the star remember every detail like the fan would know.

And that's cos we are all step from being psycho stalkers!
