Don't know if this is in another thread anywhere or not (or even if this is the right area to post this)....Below is a blurb from the New York Daily News today:

"Bono has a backache. The U2 rocker got ready for his Madison Square Garden contortions by visiting Dr. Vijay Vad at the Hospital for Special Surgery yesterday"

I'm sure they will give him some fun medicine and he will be flying high and feelin' good for the shows....

I hope so, but shit back pain is hard to just get painkillers to stop...in my experience anyway it can be really frustrating, and if you got muscle spasms going you need to use relaxants ( like valium) and that's not all that fun...really, rest and letting those muscles really unwind (if muscles and not discs/nerves are indeed the issue) is what would help, something he's not likely to get to do on tour unfortunately...

If he can do all that crawling around during An Cat Dubh, he's fine.

If you've never had back problems, count yourself lucky.

If Bono does have a bad back, this would partly explain why the tour has been so hit and miss. I can empathize with Bono's predicament - some people think a few pills or beers will work magic, but in reality a back problem heals very slowly (if at all)

Doesn't he do a Zoo TV-like prancing around during Zoo station, crawl around during An cat dubh and walk around the catwalk and play the drums?

(not to mention jumping and running around the heart on the last tour)

I wonder (and hope) B has consulted Larry on this. Ironic that Larry is the drummer with a history of back and hand problems (he had surgery on his hand as recently as Feb, if you recall) and seems to be doing just fine.

In Flanagan's 1994 book "U2 At The End OF The World", it was revealed that once a year, every year since 1988, Larry has been flying to a specialist in Germany who injects him with a small dose of bull's blood. After many other therapies, this seems to have done the trick, and Larry has since then had almost no problems. It flared up for a while after Popmart again but now he seems to be fine. (One reaction from a Principle to finding out this news: "Larry is full of bulls' blood? That explains so much." One of my favorite lines in the book.)

Geez Bono....it seems you're afraid of going to Lardence for advice? On second thought...Bono full of bull's blood?? I shudder at the thought.

Hope you feel better B. I'm going to be at that show, and I'll be sending good vibes your way:wink:

 Ouch - sympathies to B on the back problem. I spent 6 months mainly on my back after a stupid injury, but it did give me time to learn guitar so it wasn't all bad.

Problem with back injuries as I discovered tho is that while they can get better, they rarely go away completely. I could handle it in my 20's, I just about tolerate it in my 30's, but I'm REALLY not looking forward to my 40's!

Get better soon Bono and get Ali to pamper you with plenty of massages!

I've found out that once something has happened to your back, it never, ever, ever goes away completely. You're always susceptible to reinjuring it, throwing it out, etc.. Not to mention that the older you get, the less it'll take to throw it out of whack again. Not fun at all.

Backache! :yikes: I have a back problem and it hurts like hell sometimes, it must hurt even more if the person is on stage every night like Bono. Too bad is right now, close to the NY show. I hope he gets better. :bono:

i talked to someone at the show tonight and they said it really looked like the back was hurting him

he also could try an accupunturist

SO far I've only gotten a rare nasty bachache ache since i was ? in my early 30's, if i sat a certain way too long, or twist a certain way too long.

But it's never gotten worse It only happens from 2 time a year to once every 2 yrs or so for about half a day to 2 or three days I'm in my late 40's now.

ANd tai chi is an excellent form of muscle strenthening & fleibilty issues.

I never gave back problems a thought until about 6 months ago, when I strained it very severely. Now it's 6 months later, and it still hurts like hell 24 hrs a day, although I get glimmers of hope more frequently now. I'm only 29, but I feel like I'm 92. I used to be in great physical shape, but now I find walking a challenge. It really sucks.

Kudos to Bono for struggling through it. he must be very tired now.

Even fun medicine turns into necessary medicine with severe pain.

It is no longer fun at this point and all attempts to stop in with medication doesn't always work.
I've had 2 knee replacement surgeries and my back is the strongest part of my body because of the continued physical therapy I've done on and off.
Still, it hurts like hell sometimes. :|
So call me, Bono!!:giggle: I'll teach you all I know and you can tell me what all the world famous doc's recommend:wink:
