This is my first post in Six weeks and I have come on here to share/brag(hahahah) a few of my U2 experiences with the lot of ya.

In the past 6 weeks some of the highlights have been in Chronoligcal order ofcourse.

1) Meeting Bono and Ali by accident 3 hours after getting off the plane at a clinic, however one disappointment was that I could not get a picture as Bono said 'sorry we're not doing pictures today' Doh

2) Buying a ticket to Croke Park for U2's first gig while very intoxicated(being on the high from meeting Bono that day) for 200 Euro's eek and then seeing them the next night at Croke, I didn't know it would be so easy, they performed WGRYWH's for Sound check and Vertigo too! And then performed WGRYWH's again in concert too!!! The guitarring is amazing in that song!

3) Discovering at the U2 Cardiff 29.06.05 concert that The Killers are an even better live band than U2(Just kidding!! haha) Nah but discovering that they are even more awesome live than they are on their records. Seeing U2 there was also the best I had seen them ever, even better than the Croke Park one and I feel that it had alot to do with the darkness and therefore the lighting creating more atmosphere.

4) Seeing U2 in Amsterdam 13.07.05, my most emotional concert, not the best because of the strange accoustics, but when Bono sang STYCMIOYO it was right in front of me this time as opposed to the Cardiff one where he was on the other wing and this time it really gutted me.

The only dissappointments about the concerts in general was the fact that for me each of the concerts were pretty much the same setlist! I mean none of those extra songs you get here and there.
I was dying to here Gloria and Orginal of Species. Still am happy with getting Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses and City Of Blinding Lights and I Will follow/The Electric Co double is brilliant.

Thanks and sorry for spill I just needed to share it with some U2ers

Cheers

Hi! How did you like Europe?

Did you go to Brussels as well? Where exactly did you meet Bono and what was said?

:hyper:

Glad u had a good time buddy!

I'm sorry, but Bono saying that actually annoys me...maybe cos im in a bad mood anyway, but is just bullishit. It would take all of 5 seconds of his precious 'limo to plane' time.

I only saw them in Dublin, Cardiff and Amsterdam not Brussels unfortunately, but I feel 3 concerts was a good amount. :)

When he came into the clinic in Dublin I thought I heard a very familiar voice so I looked up(I had been at the clinic who with my friend who was getting a chest x-ray for his medical to become an australian citizen) and I thought it was a boy walking through the door then I noticed it was Bono I kind of took my eyes away then looked back, as the cliche goes, but it was exactly how it was.. The reason I thought it was a boy is because he was short, wearing his usual green cap backwards and Ali was with him and seemed quite a bit taller at the time.
He was with a nurse who escorted him straight into the pathology and they were in there for about 10 mins. My friend immediately after he dissappeared said did you see who that was? I went a bit white like a ghost apparently, became speechless and was in shock just sitting there...
And I didn't know whether to hassle him or just leave him be.. I decided I was going to ask for a pic and actually meet the man. I mean I live in Australia and the chance of ever meeting Bono was slim and I am really a huge fan so I needed to in a way, so I decided I was going to politely hassle him when he came out. As he walked through out through the door to the entrance of the waiting room(the one i saw him come through) I got up and went through myself as I did I called Bono, I was a bit nervous I think and said it softly, so I said it a little louder this time.. Words were kind of hard to come out but I remember initially saying hello and asking if he was ok. I knew there were rumours of back probs at this stage and he really did seem fragile, I actually looked at Ali once and felt so rude because I didn't say hello to her hahaha. I then explained that I was from Australia and I was in Europe to see them. And I kind of was speaking really fast and a bit shakey hahaha and then asked if it was ok to have a photo. He then replied 'sorry we're not doing photo's today' I said that's cool I understand and shook his hand and so did my friend and they went and sat in this cafe inside the Clinic.
I was in a great deal of shock at this stage, I was thinking did my brothers friend set this up hahaha
I wish I got a photo.. I am unsure if I was rude or not asking. I did ask politely however and I didn't take any photo's because I really fucking hate people that don't ask and just are rude to stars etc.. mind you the snake started whispering in my ear at times to go past the cafe and take one.. But I think I just had to keep coming back to that point that the star I respect the most just said no to me.. anyways thats that.. never forget the 23.06.05, 3.5 hours after getting off the plane, dropped my stuff off at Sally Noggin had an irish brekky and then decided to go with my bro's friend to the clinic, even though i was hell tired, to go for a drive in the car to see some of dublin. Was almost going to wait in the car but went in and then wham.. Bono and Ali walk through and yeah..

It was somewhat dissapointing for me too but then I think well maybe he had something serious was going on or maybe he just plain was sick of fans that day.. in the end it could have been worse I may never have seen him at all. Circumstancial I spose and to be honest I didn't really communicate with him well, I kind of just said all this nervous shit in about 10 secs.. I think I blew it hehehe

good on you!

Hey there,
I think you did the right thing. Being in a clinic it must have been something personal that he (and Ali) where there for. You know, they are only human. I understand you wanted to say Hi though, coming from oz myself i wouldnt let such an oportunity slip by! Am jealous regarding your trip and the shows! Lucky you!

Yeah I know what ya mean, what pisses me off is more from my side, because I neither explained that I am a huge fan and I really respect him and shit..
But I just didn't say any of the stuff I thought I would say when I met him. I felt uncomfortable because 1 it was a big chance meeting and 2 because he was in a pathology.. eh. So I stumbled.
Ah well next time I will be ready!
hahahaha

we need to remember that they do have there own "down time" and he had every right to say no, especially if he was visiting a doctor

at least you got to shake his hand

For goodness sakes, he was in a doctor's office.

LuvandPeace1980 did the right thing by respecting his wishes.

LuvandPeace did the right thing indeed. I would've done exactly the same.
(I knew sum1 would piss on me for that post)

The fact is, the guy travelled from Australia, and paid a great deal of money to go to shows across Europe, and has no doubt paid a lot on the band in the past too.

To step outside the Doctors for a photo, isnt really much to ask in return. He wasnt dying for fucks sake...he has a bad back.

and he was with his with for gods sake, the man deserves some privacy no matter what

I assume u mean Wife. A fan traveliing hundreds of thousands of miles, gets a once in a lifetime chance of a photo with their fave. singer. It would take 5 seconds at the most.

Aardy did you like the Cardiff show and did you like the Killers?

About meeting Bono:
All of this is awesome no matter what happened.
In the end I think he was pretty polite about telling me to rack off.
Ali was smiling at me, maybe it was my accent or my Perth charm I don't know. I think everyone's point is right here. In the end if you get to shake Bono's hand it's a great thing.
In the end I said nothing profound or anything to even suggest I was a huge fan. I really can't be absolutely positive(as I was a bit awestruck)if I said that I was in Dublin to see them or I said I was just from Australia.. I can't remember. But it really doesn't matter.. much hahaha

but as he has just said he didnt even tell him he was a "big fan"

come on mate we both know he cant be all singing all dancing EVERY day of the week, the man has stuff on his mind like us all

Ok. Before the Americans come on and flame me even more, ill just agree with u guys.
I think there's an element of me being in a bad mood that's made me post all this anyway. It aint something I would normally do!

I dont know that it gets any easier!? I have met a lot of my hero's and every time i just turn into a bumbling mess! I dont know what it is, i mean they are just people right? Its interesting...anyway i wouldnt feel bad about it just enjoy it for what it was....

The Cardiff one was the best one for sure, it felt like more energised that the others!
I am glad I travelled to that little Cardiff town for it, I must say the organisation for Standing room entrance was pathetic. They just let everyone in at once, they didn't stagger it and it became dangerous when entering the pit. Especially with Drunk fuckfaces yelling push as some kind of sick joke!

About the rest of the discussion I must say:
Yes very diplomatic in here tonight, well done!
I honestly thought I was going to get a few.. yeah sure you met him type people

I have it on my ticket, let me check
gate 7, entry A3.. I can't remember if A3 was relevant when we entered, I didn't get there til 3.30pm and I still made it in the pit. Which I think showed how badly organised it was.

Yeah I know what you mean. I met Ewan McGregor in my local pub (can you believe that?) and I think I was probably a bit goofy at first. I was about to ask "Aren't you...?" (I know - dumb!) and anticipating the question he laughed and said "Aye, it is me." I guess he gets that rather a lot.

Having said that, I had been there a while and had several pints of liquid comedy, so the bravado kicked in and I asked him for the photo/autograph thing - which he was kind enough to do. I now have a great shot of us blowing kisses to the camera together.

He's a really nice bloke actually. We chatted for about an hour or so, then he bought me a pint and left.
