thanks, carek.

they really are good places. i wouldn't recommend them if they weren't. sunset station is very close to the galleria, a target store, and plenty of well-known places to eat. i mean, i don't know if any of that will come in handy for the people coming in for that weekend, but you never know.

plus, shuttles! :hyper:

I don't like that part of town. There are a few hotels on Tropicana people might want to try like the Orleans. Cheaper and safer.

Have you seen the area around the Orleans, not much different than the Strat area. Once you're in a big casino you basically stay within the property, unless you like to walk from casino to casino.
Sahara is a good value as well.

No I haven't seen the area around Orleans.....most of those Orleans motels are not in the spiffiest of tourist areas. I forgot about Harrah's, that's next to Imperial Palace where I'm booked.

Hey Look Everyone! The sign's up!! They're ready for us!!

$85.99 per night at Motel 6-Tropicana (195 E Tropicana). It's a very short walk to the MGM.
Rooms are still available- I just booked it tonight.

There are no short walks in Vegas. I know the location of this Motel 6, it's about a 3 blocks, plus another long stroll into the front entrance of the MGM. Maybe the hotel offers a shuttle, most smaller motels do.

Well it seems we are booked for The Tropicana on Thurs and Fri night, and then will be at NY NY until Wed...

Karl was trying to be nice and got tix for us to Cirque du Soleil for Sat night and I said, "That's nice babe but now we have NO chance of going to the second u2 show!" :( He thinks 4 for the tour is enough :| Oh well :sigh:

There are a couple of other entrances, one along Tropicana itself and another on the Strip; albeit smaller, they at least get you inside....we're staying along that same area at the LAQuinta Inn at Valley View and Tropicana...its 1/2 mile to the MGM...see you there.

Only FOUR? Are you kidding?

For the rate at this Motel 6, you can probably stay at a casino like Strat or Sahara and take the Monorail into MGM. Motels are really inconvenient in Vegas, especially when you're hungry.

The back entrance to the MGM (closer to the Garden Arena) is about 1/4 mile from the Motel 6, so a few blocks sounds right. It is a much longer walk going to the front entrance.

Anyone with GA tickets for Vegas, I just got this emailed to me from the MGM Grand Garden:

Venue Guidelines

In order to provide a safe, friendly environment during the November 4-5, 2005, performances of U2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, please adhere to the following venue guidelines implemented for festival seating (general admission, standing room only on the floor). Please note that there is a zero tolerance policy for activities or actions that endanger other guests. If you are unable to respect and adhere to the guidelines below, you will be asked to leave the performance without a refund. Thank you for helping us provide each guest with a safe, memorable concert experience.

A line for festival seating access (general admission, standing room only on the floor) will form at 4:00pm on Friday/Saturday, November 4-5, 2005, no sooner. Moreover, the barcode on your ticket will be scanned using a computerized random number generator. A percentage of tickets scanned will result in access to the Ellipse area closest to the stage. If you are randomly selected for festival seating inside the Ellipse, you will be issued a second wristband and can be accompanied by one guest. At approximately 6:30pm, the line from Studio Ballroom A&B will enter the venue and onto the floor. All guests are required to pass through metal detectors.

The following items are prohibited in the festival seating areas:

If you arrive to the venue with a prohibited item(s), you have the option of returning the item(s) to your room, vehicle, or deposit in a secured trash receptacle, thus forfeiting possession. Prohibited items will not be accepted, held, stored or checked by venue personnel.
