Where`s NYD????

)Friends ,

It seems like NYD is gone from the set!

They haven`t played it on the 3rd leg so far ( I maybe wrong? ).
It may show up in New York or other cities with 3 or more nights but other than that it seems to me it`s dropped????

Is it a good thing , what do ya all think????

Cheers ,

Mauwer

p.s. I like NYD and instead would like to see they would drop Pride

( replace it with Crumbs or 11 o`clock tick tock )

amazed that this gets dropped instead of dead weight like WOWY. and I'm not a big fan of Pride, but at least it's upbeat and gets the crowd going.

but shit, man...it's hard to beat Edge on double duty. I don't think I'd ever get sick of this one.

I agree completely. As much as it's been played a million and a half times, it was a true highlight of Boston III and certainly shouldn't be cut ahead of WOWY or even One. In my opinion, NYD always sounds fresh, much like Bad or Streets.

agreed.

i don't mind NYD's loss, it seems like there are some songs U2 would never ever drop (I think Edge has a saying on these songs especially): New Year's day, Bullet the blue sky, etc...

For "Bullet" its really time to take a tour break! It's been played non-stop since the Joshua Tree Tour. And while it was always reinvented, this tour the lil blues-solo doesn't make up for it...

I wouldn't mind New years day, Bullet the blue sky, With or without you, Pride and One to be rotated during a tour or some of them even dropped for the whole tour...

We've been hearing these songs for over a decade now on every single tour!

Well put. The biggest disappointment of the gig I saw was how flat and uninspiring One sounded.

Yep, that's the one thing I really noticed at all three Boston shows - One was possibly the weakest of all of the songs played. Sure, it was neat to watch all the mobile phones come out, but in terms of how emotionally affecting it was, hearing One live affected me a whole lot less than listening to the Popmart Sarajevo performance, which I've heard a stack of times before!

On the other hand, New Year's Day sounded so fresh - from the moment Adam struck his bass, the place was in a frenzy. Edge's work was exceptional as always, and the solo completely magical. If U2 have to play a few classics, New Year's Day definitely should be one of them.

That's really sad as it was a high point of ZooTV and Popmart shows. Technically it sounds ok but the vibe just isn't there anymore. Although, I thought the Live8 version did come close to the ZooTV version as Bono added the extra lines at the end (Hear me coming lord etc.) and sang the snippet of Unchained Melody too.

I have yet to hear a boring version of NYD though......

The second One from Live 8 finished, I turned to my girlfriend and remarked that watching that on TV was much more emotionally powerful than witnessing it in person. She agreed.

I have come to be of the opinion that the best thing that could happen to One is to be taken out of the nightly setlist. It is often such a special and powerful song on important occasions, and I think giving it some rarity value would make its appearances all the greater. U2's entire heart and soul would be in it whenever it's played - and when that happens, it's amazing (re: Popmart Sarajevo).

Agreed totally with you about One.
I also liked it way better during the Zoo and Pop tours.

I also thought that One on the Zoo tour was played in the right spot of the set.
And the way U.Melody flowed it`s way into the haunting start of UTEOTW
Too cool for words!!!!

NYD at Amsterdam 3 was cool , Edge messing with solo and all...!

Cheers ,

Mauwer

p.s. AIWIY hasn`t also been played in a while ( Amsterdam 2 I think the last time? )

No, it lasted until the end of July. Last played in Copenhagen.

I'm sure not lamenting the loss of "New Year's Day," although I do agree with everybody that there are probably a few other songs that I'd like to see go, first...but at least it's a start, as far as I'm concerned.

My only worry is that rather than taking "New Year's Day" out back and putting a few bullets into its now-pointless ass, they maybe just put it in the corner on time-out for a while. If it returns, I guess it won't kill me--I've seen five shows so far, don't think I'm seeing any more, and it's true that a lot of people still somehow love hearing the song. That's fine, and I do think it's a great U2 song. But I am also very, very, very glad that I didn't have to hear it suck the wind out of any more shows with its 100%-of-the-time-lifeless performance for the 900th time. It didn't ruin any shows or whatever, but it was just...blah.

Yeah, "One" sucks live. Yeah, "Pride" sucks live. Yeah, tons of songs they play from the pre-All That You Can't Leave Behind days either now suck live or at least sound lifeless (often...not always--see "Electric Co."). As I see it, at least one's in the bag. Or I hope so, for the sake of those attending the upcoming shows...!

Agree with you about Elec.Co
That`s one of the Vertigo Tour highlight`s for me.
But I seem never to get bored of NYD as I get with Pride though.

Now if only 11 o`clock tick tock got played
That would be soooo cool.

Cheers ,

Well, it's a good song but I'm sick to death of hearing it in nearly every single bootleg since 1983!

That said, U2 performs it's show for the audience, not for me listening in at home, and from what I've seen first hand at shows I've been at and from DVDs, NYD always gets one of the biggest reactions from the crowd. So in that sense it's a pity for it to go. But then, we've seen some good new songs come in so I'm not complaining

Hearing "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" live was one of the highest highlights of my entire life. I will never ever, ever, ever, ever forget it. I nearly fainted with excitement.

Thank God for Chicago shows, you know? I mean...damn...
