Christmas(Baby Please Come Home) should be on the December play list

Does anyone know if U2 has performed this song live ever? It's by far my favorite Christmas song and I honestly think it's one of Bono's better vocal performances. His voice just booms through the entire song. It's got a definate Christmas feel to it but with so much energy to go along with it. I think it would be amazing if U2 opened the second encore with this song in Portland(last show before Christmas, just so happens I'll be there as well). Hell they should open the second encore with it for all the shows in December. Anyone else want to see this song live this Christmas?

Also this is a cover song right? Who does the original?

Here is a link for a YSI of Christmas Baby Please Come Home.
I believe this is a U2 Christmas song, not a cover. It's a Phil Spector song U2 sang on the 1987 A Very Special Christmas album produced by Jimmy Iovine who peoduced Under A Blood Red Sky live album & Rattle & Hum. The track was recorded at the SEC in Glasgow Scotland during a soundcheck on July 30 1987. The album was a special charity release in aid of the Special Olympics. U2 also sang the song LIVE on the very last day of the Joshua Tree tour at Sun Devil stadium in Tempe Arizona USA on December 20, 1987. (I hope U2 performs the track at the Portland show December 19th!)

The video for this song was filmed at the LSU Activity Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA in November 1987.

Christmas(baby please come home). this is the best for me

I am soooo hoping they'll play this at Charlotte (12/12) - I just heard it tonight in Wal-Mart while doing my shopping & told Mr. Blu my wish. :giggle:

Now way they will play this track!

Bono might sing Merry Christmas, but that's about all you'll get!

:eyebrow: How can it be a Phil Spector song, but not a cover?

The original was written (and produced) by Phil Spector and a couple other people for, I think, Darlene Love, one of the many singers whose career Spector helped start. So it's obviously a cover. Darlene Love's version is better known than U2's (except around here).

Exactly.

Very doubtful this gets done. Bono could do some off the cuff Christmas song adlib towards the end of the tour, but I think that would be it.

If they were going to do a full Christmas song my guess would be Merry Christmas (War Is Over). But I doubt that would be done either. End of this tour is a bunch of single nights. Means they may not even soundcheck and the setlist and tour will be on cruise control. I wouldnt expect alot of changes during that time frame.

Thank you for that Carek1230

Hows this for a rarity

This might be a shot in the dark, but they've been playing unusual songs this tour so what the hell. Anyone else hope they'll play Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) this month? Its really one of my fav xmas songs by anyone and I think they did it so well for that complilation. Again probably not gonna happen but seeing as I'm going to the next show in Hartford I figured I'd post a hope of mine haha.
