LOGICAL songs that might get pulled out this tour...

Alright, this isn't a thread for everyone to talk about how we wish they would play Hawkmoon or Acrobat( )...what older songs do you think they might *logically* add to the setlist this tour? Someone said they were trying to mix up the setlists more, I was thinking maybe

Like a Song
Running to Stand Still
Love is Blindness
Stories for Boys (snippets at least, Bono said there was a connection with this song and Vertigo...)

What do you guys think?

The Unforgettable Fire
Exit
Running to Stand Still
MLK
The Electric Co. (longshot...but who knows).

Hey Electric Co might happen, or maybe 11 O'Clock Tick Tock...sort of like they did with Out of Control last time?

Exactly - I'm thinking Electric Co. could be this tour's Out of Control. It would fit in nicely beside Vertigo and ABOY.

I hope it's 11 O' Clock Tick Tock...

(this song is a good rockin' tune.....that is missed.)

And considering... that "Under A Blood Red Sky" version is back when they were really young...well, that doesn't "do-it" for me anymore...we need an "up-graded" version to fully enjoy now..

OK, Like A Song is so out of the bounds of logic that I can't believe it was mentioned here. It's basically on the same level as Acrobat and Heartland, except U2 did it once before deciding they didn't want to play it and it wouldn't work.

Within the realms of reason is 11 O'clock Tick Tock, and I have posted about this numerous times. This is U2's 25th anniversary year and they are making a big deal out of it. The release that marks the very beginning of U2's 25-year-long association with Island Records is 11 O'clock Tick Tock, released on 23 May 1980. I am expecting it to be played at some shows around that time in May.

Never discount Running To Stand Still or 40. They are always possibilities. Exit and The Unforgettable Fire have both been rumoured to be practised, and the latter nearly made Elevation.

Hawkmoon 269, interestingly enough, was snippeted in significant fashion on Elevation. Indeed, it was more a medley than a snippet. Hawkmoon 269 --> Desire --> Running To Stand Still, at a German show (12 or 13 July 2001 in Cologne, I think). So its suggestion is not as absurd as Like A Song.

Well, there have been reports that Wire and Unforgettable Fire have been rehearsed or considered, and the album and tour (2004/05) mark 20 years since the Unforgettable Fire album.

Since Love & Peace could be a new Bullet, Running to Stand Still seems possible. Also, reports of Exit being rehearsed... was it Axver who made a brilliant connection with Exit's theme of "a religious man who became a very dangerous man..." echoing the current U.S. president?

All of a sudden, a Love & Peace> Exit> Running to Stand Still doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Since we're 25 years out from Boy, I'd say that we'll see plenty of Out of Control and I Will Follow (though not necessarily in the same night), and hopefully 11 O'Clock Tick Tock, too.

As much as seeing Electric Co. would allow me to die happy, I won't be holding my breath.

That's a good observation, the 20 year anniversary. I think that even if they practise Wire, it probably won't make it, but UF is a good shot. It was on the Best Of, it was a reasonably successful single, it was rehearsed for Elevation, and it was played as the outro music at Slane concerts. The report that it is being practised is not much of a surprise and it will be incredible to hear it played after a 15 year absence.

That was indeed I. I've regularly quoted that in my LiveJournal when discussing Bush. Personally, I would be tempted to somewhat swap your order, make it Exit --> LAPOE --> RTSS, but either would be so amazingly fantastic. I'd personally hope for RTSS on guitar like ZooTV, but I can imagine it being played on piano and being followed by Original Of The Species.

Agreed. Out Of Control and I Will Follow, having already been played at promo shows, are certainties. I can imagine them rotating like on Elevation. The Electric Co. ... for some reason, it feels faintly possible, but I don't know why. I'd die of joy if I were there ...!

None of the Zooropa songs, except Stay, don't have a shot of making the tour IMO

Boy/October/War songs do because of the subject matter they might use and the 25th Anniversary stuff mentioned, I think

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree. I am very much hoping The Wanderer is snippeted in tribute to Johnny Cash, though I'm not holding my breath. And Bono's said he likes Dirty Day, and the lyrics might be appropriate: "from father to son, in one life has begun a work that's never done".

But yeah, Stay's the only Zooropa song with any form of reasonable likelihood of being played.

I could never understand why U2 never chose to play Like a Song??? It's such a natural live rocker. Anyway, this upcoming tour...my instincts tell me that The Unforgettable Fire will be making a comeback - I also sense Running To Stand Still and on particular nights Exit. Just a hunch.

It would be nice if they played SOMETHING off of October. They've completely abandoned that album. I know they have a disdain for "Gloria" (Bono was quoted as saying the song hasn't dated well or whatever). Going out on a serious limb - how cool would "Tomorrow" sound acoustic, then full band kicking in to end it. I think that song has aged well, it would be great.

Oh really? OK, this is my first concert, so I'm not really familiar with their past setlists except maybe Elevation somewhat. I was just listening to it today and thought it was a cool rockin song that would be great live, I wonder why they haven't played it more?

I just listened to Wire (and now am on Unforgettable Fire) and it would be great to have either of those played live sometimes, cool songs. A Sort of Homecoming, too.

I do think they'll probably play 11 O'Clock Tick Tock or Electric Co sorta like they did with Out of Control, but like I said I'm new to this, and Axver aren't you like the King of U2 Setlists or something?...

The band played Like A Song just the once, on 26 February 1983. Now I think the performance sounded fine, but apparently the band were quite unimpressed and had a hard time keeping up with the pace of the song. For that reason, it was instantly cut from the set. I'm surprised they didn't give it another chance, but they obviously didn't feel they could do the song justice.

That would be excellent. On the Elevation Tour, they pulled out A Sort Of Homecoming at the first Slane gig, but it was disastrous. Hopefully they'll do it at Croke AND PRACTISE IT THIS TIME!

I'm just a guy with a ridiculously good memory who finds a lot of interest in setlists and spends way too much time reading them. www.elevation-tour.com is my favourite setlist site.

11 O'clock Tick Tock is a quite real possibility. It was the most intensively played song from 1980 to 1985, and was played seven times on Elevation, plus twice at pre-Elevation promo gigs. Now that it's in its 25th anniversary year and is a song important to the band, I can see it being played. I sure hope they do it! I wish I could give a good reason why they'd play The Electric Co. but I can't ... a lot of us have a feeling they'll play it, but that really doesn't mean a whole lot!

11 0' clock should definitely be played!
And maybe Wire of UF or Exit of JT--would love to hear these 2!

I wouldn't be surprised if U2 resurrected the Unforgettable Fire for this tour. It seems appropriate.

Ditto for 11 o'clock tick tock, Electric Co., and Stories for Boys.
