Rumors abound on the Internet than an Italian radio station played snippets of several new U2 songs from their forthcoming album. No other information was found about the songs, and they have not been aired since.

6/5 - Longtime U2 producer Daniel Lanois speaks to VH1 in an exclusive interview where he says the following about working with Bono:
That?s a man who has the ability to rechannel energy, including bad energy. If you think of it like electricity and you get a shock from it, he says, ?Let?s redo the wiring and cook a very nice meal.? I?ve learned to rechannel energy from him. The bully in the class might become the leader of the pack if you just extend the invitation.

In Los Angeles, The Edge joins Lanois on stage at the Henry Fonda Theater to perform "Falling at Your Feet," "Still Water" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.?

6/8 - U2 sound engineer Joe O'Herlihy states that the new U2 Album is due for release in February 2004. The new songs are said to be similar to All That You Can't Leave Behind, but with harder guitar sounds.

As for the new U2 tour, the planned start date will be either May or September 2004, if the release of the album shifts, according O'Herlihy. It is not yet known if the tour will be in closed arenas or in open-air stadiums. The very successful Elevation Tour played to smaller, closed arenas in most cities.

6/10 - Two of U2's most famous and beloved lovelorn anthems are dubbed "Great" on a list compiled by VH1, marking the "100 Greatest Songs From The Past 25 Years." "One" placed high at #5, while "With Or Without You" came in at #21.

6/11 - U2?s manager Paul McGuinness speaks to U2.com about the band?s participation with Apple?s iTunes music service, and the new studio album. Within the interview, McGuinness offered the following about the new album:
I have heard a lot of new stuff, they seem to have about twenty tunes on board at moment. I always say I'm no judge in the early stages. I'm better at hearing it when it's nearly finished. That said, it sounds very exciting to me, very rock and roll, very direct as you would expect with Chris Thomas producing. The band keep making him tell them Beatle stories!

6/14 - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum holds its first U2 Fan Celebration to mark the unveiling of the Four5One graphic design portion of the exhibit. Curator Jim Henke took to the airwaves at the Rock Hall's Allen Freed radio studio to talk with college radio station WBWC to talk about the U2 exhibit, the Fan Celebration and U2's imminent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Henke indicated that U2 would be eligible in the Spring of 2005 for serious consideration to be inducted.. and that the person who inducts/introduces the band will most likely be a younger musician who was greatly influenced by the band, and that the Induction could possibly happen in Cleveland!

Drama breaks out online as U2 fansites receive an email purportedly claiming to be from an individual working for Universal Records in Columbia who erroneously insist they have a promotional poster for the new U2 album, supposedly called ?Solar.? The ?poster? claimed a first single release date of January 2004, with the album release on March 8th, 2004. The employee also claimed the poster arrived in a package from Universal/Island Records in Europe. It is sad to think someone would go to such links to hoax thousands of U2 fans that just want to know when to expect new U2 material.

A week later, Irish music magazine Hot Press publishes an article debunking the poster. Check it out here: http://forum.interference.com/t78729.html

In issue #926 of Rolling Stone magazine, featuring American Idol participant Clay Aiken on the cover, U2 is ranked Number One in the "Twenty Greatest Live Acts in the World" article. The following is said about U2 in the article:

Somewhere in the late Eighties, the E Street Band took a break, and U2 became the best live band in the world. They'll do whatever it takes to connect: jump into a stadium crowd and slow-dance with a fan, as Bono did at Live Aid in 1985; take a gospel choir on the road (Joshua Tree tour, 1987); overwhelm the audiences with multimedia (ZooTV Tour, 1992); or just play uplifiting rock & roll with a lot of feeling (every tour).

Last Tour: The Elevation Tour, 2001
Best Tour: The ZooTV Outside Broadcast, 1992-93 - a mind-altering stage setup, plus exceptional songs from Achtung Baby.
Best Live Album: 1984's explosive Under a Blood Red Sky EP. Bono's enthusiasm and emotion conquer America for the first time.
