4/2 - The Joshua Tree is ranked at the #4 Ultimate Album, according to Virgin Radio. U2 was bested by #3 (What's The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis, #2 Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys and #1 A Night At The Opera by Queen.

4/3 - An Unforgettable Journey, and unauthorized documentary about U2 is announced on DVD by production house Chrome Dreams. The DVD, which bows on April 21st, boasts ?an uncensored look at a truly extraordinary band.? No official or exclusive material on the band is offered on the DVD, nor are any U2 songs.


4/4 - U2 donates autographed guitars to the Save The Earth Foundation for Earth Day, 2003.

The Chicago Peace Museum, point of inspiration for The Unforgettable Fire?s tone and atmosphere, is featured in an article in the Chicago Sun-Times detailing the museum?s financial woes.

4/7 - AIDS Lobby Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. From AllAfrica.com: In solidarity with the students, rock star and AIDS activist Bono wrote a statement read by Dr. Graham, calling upon President Bush to live up to his commitment made a few months ago, "a historic promise to treat 2 million people in Africa and prevent 7 million Africans from becoming infected." Bono continued, "Together we will fight this disease and we will not stop until humanity is freed from this scourge."


4/8 - It is announced that Bono will once again collaborate with legendary Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti on May 27th in Modena, Italy at a charity concert to raise funds for those affected by the war in Iraq. Bono and Pavarotti first performed together on behalf of victims of the Bosnian war in 1995.

NBC broadcasts ?Cher: The Farewell Tour? with footage of the diva peforming U2?s ?I Still Haven?t Found What I?m Looking For? while perched atop a chandelier. Cher has long stated that the U2 tune is her ?theme? song.

In an exclusive chat on his official website, former lead singer of Savage Garden, Darren Hayes revealed that if he had his druthers, he'd recruit U2's The Edge and Adam Clayton as his backing band of choice.


4/9 - NEW ALBUM NEWS - An Interferencer makes the journey to Hanover Studio in Dublin and is lucky enough to speak with Adam Clayton about the new U2 studio album. Clayton reveals that the band were "nearly done," and that possibly only four songs are still needing final vocals and other ?various treatments...?

4/11 - U2 is featured in ?Rock X-Posed,? a retrospective photography exhibit currently displayed at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

4/13 - U2 is rumored to take part in a concert link-up with the Corrs between Belfast and Dublin as part of the BBC?s Music Alive concert festival. U2 later deny participation in the May event to Hot Press.


4/15 - Is U2?s ?One? mistaken as an anthem? The Los Angeles Times thinks that it might be, along with OutKast?s ?Bombs Over Baghdad? and Bruce Springsteens?s ?Born In The U.S.A.? Is it possible we?ve read too much into these tunes through the years, or are we just not reading between the lines?

Regarding ?One,? Bono is quoted as saying:
?I never saw the song as something hopeful or comforting,? he said at the time. ?To me, it was a very bitter song. It?s saying, ?We are one, but we?re not the same.? It?s not saying we even want to get along, but that we have to get along in this world if it is to survive. It?s a reminder that we have no choice.?

USA Today writer Whitney Matheson contends in her ?Pop Candy? column that Bono is the perfect ?rock star moniker.?

Bono is featured in the May issue of InStyle Magazine in an article titled "Pro Bono, Stars Celebrate the generosity of U2's frontman." The article is about the recent MusiCares ceremony, offering a summary of the night and includes pictures of Bono, Robert De Niro, Bill Clinton, Ashley Judd, and others.


4/17 - Showbiz Ireland reports that U2 are to take part in a secret concert in Dublin with former Velvet Underground frontman, Lou Reed.

Bono wins the "Poetry for Music" prize for 2003 from the Librex Montale.

The Irish Examiner announces that Bono is to address the World Newspaper Congress in June in Dublin.


4/18 - VIVA TV?s teletext features the following tidbit on Bono:
"Often we read stories how celebrities spend huge amounts of money when they go on a spending trip. U2's Bono went a step further recently when he left (as in forgotten) a lot of money in a store in Aspen, Colorado. Luckily for him, a honest person went after him and returned the money. They were awarded a generous amount of 100 US dollars."


4/20 - To the delight of fans and admirers worldwide, Bono is named TIMEeurope?s Online Hero of 2003 for his endless campaigning for HIV/AIDS relief in Africa - beating out the likes of French president Jaques Chirac, who placed second in the poll, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who placed third.

Bono will be featured in a documentary about one of his favorite authors, iconoclast Charles Bukowski, entitled Bukowski: Born Into This due into theatres on August 22nd. Details are slim, but Bono and actor pal Sean Penn are given the hefty task of explaining the sometimes difficult to swallow Bukowski and his catalog of literary genius.

4/22 - U2 confirm their appearance at the Opening Ceremonies of the 11th Special Olympics World Summer Games at Dublin?s Croke Park stadium on June 21st, with former South African President Nelson Mandela, The Corrs and fellow Irish superstars Samantha Mumba and Ronan Tynan.

?Electrical Storm,? the lead single from The Best of 1990-2000 is nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in the ?International Hit of the Year? category. U2 is up against teen pop starlet Avril Lavigne?s ?Complicated,? and British swagger king Robbie Williams? ?Feel.?

4/23 - NEW ALBUM NEWS - Although famed U2 producer Daniel Lanois is not helming the decks on the new U2 album, the identity of who exactly is was revealed in a recent interview with Lanois, who is on tour in support of his new solo project, Shine. The producer of the next U2 album is none other than Chris Thomas - the man who lent a hand on the following albums: Sex Pistols' Never Mind The Bollocks, and The Beatles' White Album.

"I just saw Paul McGuinness (U2's manager) a couple of nights ago. They're in the studio with Chris Thomas," said Lanois, who produced 2001's "All That You Can't Leave Behind." "I spoke with Bono about it, he said 'Well, we decided to go old school' and obviously I'm not available 'cos I'm working on my record."


4/24 - The New York Post reports that Bono is not the prospective buyer who has gone to contract on Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs? former New York City apartment. The multi-million dollar apartment is located at 146 Central Park West, has two bedrooms, a chef?s kitchen, and 16 foot ceilings, among other amenities.

In the May issue of Jane, with Beck and actress Heather Graham on the cover, an article discussing what kind of makeup male celebs wear ("Men In Makeup") announces that "The rockers in U2 use Chantecaille Future Skin foundation." A picture of Bono accompanies the article.


4/26 - Entertainment Weekly names Bono ?Winner of the Week? in its Books section, honoring his participation in the new version of the classic Peter and the Wolf - lending a hand illustrating the book with his daughters Jordan and Eve.


4/29 - Lawmakers pass President Bush?s $15 billion global AIDS initiative.

U2 teams up with Apple?s new iTunes online music service - granting usage of an acoustic version of ?Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of? and live renditions of ?I Will Follow? and ?Beautiful Day?, from the 2001 Elevation shows in Boston.

In addition to offering up tunes, Bono appears in a video clip praising the new service along with jazz great Wynton Marsalis and Alanis Morissette. Bono is a known fan of Apple's Powerbook where he writes many of his lyrics, and famously lost his Powerbook once during the recording of a U2 album. The laptop was returned.
