Question about journals

Sometimes right before i post a new journal entry, i go to the list of journals and see how many views i have prior to posting.
I go to the list so that i am not adding to my own journal count.
(unless of course i want to see if i have a comment).
Sometimes i see the view count of others journals and notice that some have spiked almost a thousand views over a one or two day period.
Sometimes without even having posted a new entry for days or weeks.
So, i guess my question is, how does this happen?
Is there a way to 'spike' your own views, or can it only be done by other readers?
Do people really do that, and why?

I dont know if this question was asked before, i remember about a year ago someone had mentioned that they thought they were being stalked because their journal count went high really fast.

Does going to "Journals" and then clicking on "my journals" count as a post count?

Or does post counting happen when you click on a journal entry on the listing?

I believe so, but if you dont want to add to the count, just go to 'journal views'.
