Disclaimer: I only own these ideas and the character Hanna Ramsy

I stepped outdoors to the refreshing Irish air to have smoke just to avoid my friends who had turned into obsessive mothers and wives. I was the only one in the group single and childless, still going out to clubs and concerts as I much as I could regardless of the fact that I had turned 30 a few months ago. Still stuck at 21, my friends always joked about me. Their chatter about diapers and organic baby food while we were supposed to be having a girls night at our favorite pub had driven me crazy to the point I needed to get away.

I sighed, leaned against the old brick wall and ran my fingers through my freshly chopped off hair. I dug through my large leather handbag for my cigarettes and a lighter, grinning when I had found them and brought them out. Taking my first drag, I smiled feeling more relaxed. I decided to people watch, one of my favorite activities, perhaps in search of a new group of childless friends or friends with children who didn’t feel the need to gush every time they hiccupped.

“Excuse me miss, can I get a light?” I looked up to see a man wrapped in a grey jacket with a matching grey scarf and dark sunglasses, a cigarette dangling in his mouth in front of me.

“Oh, yeah, no problem,” I said with a wave of my hand then reached into my bag for my lighter and lit it for him. He thanked me with a killer smile and a nod.

“Adam,” He extended a hand which I accepted.

“I’m Hanna, you look awfully familiar,” I remarked studying his features harder. I had seen his face before, I know I have.

“Oh, yeah, well, I’m an umm bass player in a local band,” He winked. “Ever heard of U2? We are in Dublin,” He chuckled.

“Oh! Yes! Oh my god, yes! I saw you guys in concert a couple years ago!” I took one last drag and flicked my cigarette to the ground, crushing it with my boot. “My apologies,” I grinned back at him.

“No worries, kinda nice not being noticed. Ya know?”

“Sorry, I don’t,” I replied watching the smoke leave his lips.

“Good, I’m not as noticed as Bono or Edge but still, you won’t believe the things I’ve seen people do to get close to us. Can I get you a drink, I must repay you for the light. I needed that, ya know,” He threw the butt of his cigarette down on the ground.

“I’m actually here with friends… that I’m trying to avoid.”

Adam laughed and unraveled his scarf. “Here,” he said wrapping it around my neck, “A disguise,” he smiled and opened the pub door. “After you,” I followed him inside and went over to the bar. “2 Guinness’s, please,” After the beers had arrived we went over to a booth in the far corner avoiding my friends.

“They’ll be leaving soon, mustn’t keep the babes and husbands alone for long you know?” I said mocking them.

He chuckled, “No, no of course not. Will you be leaving with them?”

“God, no, I stay out much later than midnight,” I replied with a wink. I pushed up my sleeves and unraveled the scarf and set it down next to me. “Remind me not to forget to give you back your scarf,” I replied through sips of the Guinness.

“What is that? Is it a tattoo?” He said squinting at my wrist. Oh my god, my first tattoo. I began to feel a little embarrassed.

“Yeah, it is. I have about 10 now.”

“Interesting, may I see it?” I could feel the burn of red in my cheeks, my wrist read “Running To Stand Still” from the song on the Joshua Tree album, his album. I extended my arm out to him. He looked up at me and smiled.

“I like it,” was all he said back at me.

I laughed. “Is it odd that I have a tattoo inspired by a song you’ve played countless times?”

“You have no idea how many U2 tattoos I have seen,” He said laughing. “At least you don’t have a picture of all of our faces on your back.”

“Ummm, actually…” I said, teasing him.

He grinned and laughed. “That’s the oddest one I’ve seen,” We continued talking about weird tattoos which eventually drifted into nothingness and a couple more pints of Guinness. I checked my phone for the time and say that it was 1:30 in the morning, I had to get going, I had work in the morning.

“Dreadfully sorry, Adam but I have to go. I have work in the morning,” I explained.

“Oh yes, sorry I’m keeping you out late. What is it that you do?” He took my hand to help me out of the booth.

“I actually design my own clothes, I have a line. I’m getting ready for a Spring fashion shoot and I have interns to boss around, busy day tomorrow,” I explained.

“Can I at least escort you home?” He asked wrapping his scarf around me.

“Sure, I’d like to have the company. I live in an apartment just a few blocks from here,” We left and ventured out to and continued talking about pointless things, the sidewalk, random people walking past, it was dark and he was not getting recognized. Thankfully, if he would I’d probably have to leave him because I couldn’t wait for that sort of thing, not now while it’s so late. Before I knew it I found our fingers intertwined around each others. I looked up to smile at him and he returned with that smile.

“Here we are,” I said getting out my keys. “See you tomorrow?” I asked we had exchanged numbers earlier that night.

“I’ll be sure to stay in touch. I’m in Dublin for a few more weeks. Goodnight Hanna,” He waved as I stood above him on the steps.

“Good night and sweet dreams, Adam,” I smiled and turned around and put in my key, I opened the door and turned around and watched him walk a bit then hail a cab. It wasn't until then I remember I still had his scarf.

"Adam! Wait! Your scarf!" I yelled and waved to get his attention but no use, he was gone. At least now I had an excuse to see him again, I thought to myself.

I'm totally finding Adam incredibly sexy right now! Beautiful writing! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Very impressive! I can't WAIT for more! OMG!

P.S. Good choice :sexywink: Adam needs some love, too! I bet the band members are looking at this right now going, "Adam! Hey! Adam Clayton! Some chick is actually writing about you! How 'bout that, eh, you sly dog, you!"

Ok, that was a bit far fetched.

Very unhealthy beggining with these cigarettes, don't you think?:lol:
I'm waiting for the next part :sexywink: Good job, friend

 I wish I could whip something up for you in a matter of two minutes but I can't. Uh...let me think...ok, if you have a certain scene in your head, just go ahead and write it and then go back to everything else later. I used to be a chapter to chapter, line to line writer until I started writing with Without Speaking. Our story is just scattered about everywhere with random scenes, nothing really flowing yet but you know...I like writing that way. When you have something in your head you MUST get it out or you won't be able to write at all. So just try that. If you have a conversation you want to get out but it doesn't come until the middle of the chapter, write it down anyways and then go back. hope that helped.
