U2, 'Lord of the Rings' carry Amazon.com to record sales
SEATTLE -- Amazon.com says this holiday shopping season was its busiest ever. The online retailer said on its top day, it handled 2.8 million orders.
Amazon said for the first time, consumer electronics replaced books as the top seller. Much of the credit goes to Apple iPods and a Phillips DVD player.
Amazon said it sold more than one watch per minute since Nov. 25. The company shipped more than 100,000 products to U.S. military personnel.
The hottest music seller was U2's ``How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.'' On one day, more than 13,000 orders were placed for the DVD ``Lord of the Rings, Return of the King.''
