Bono a TV Treat

The final episode of hit US sitcom Friends has been voted the best thing on television in 2004.

The long-awaited climax of the decade-long show ranks top in a list of memorable TV broadcasts, such as the end of Sex And The City and David Blunkett's tearful resignation as Home Secretary.

Viewers were asked to vote for the Channel 4 poll of top 100 TV Treats of the Year.

Their top 10 highlights include Britain triumphing at the Olympics (7) and Michael Palin's travel programme Himalaya (6).

Political moments in the top 100 are those which cause our politicians the most embarrassment. Minister Harriet Harman's gaffe on Question Time, when she accidentally called Chancellor Gordon Brown the Prime Minister, is fondly remembered (89).

The Hutton Inquiry does not get a mention, but U2 singer Bono's moving speech on poverty in Africa at the Labour Party conference is on the list (60).

Medical student Julia Prague grilling Tony Blair on Newsnight over tuition fees is a favourite (39), but the most memorable TV moment was Mr Blunkett's resignation over the Kimberly Quinn affair (28).

Sporting treats of the year include Wayne Rooney's triumph at Euro 2004 (16), Europe winning the Ryder Cup against the Americans (25) and athlete Paula Radcliffe's return to form at the New York marathon after disappointment at the Olympics (33).

The final episode of Sex And The City, when Big tells Carrie she is the one, has been voted the third best thing on TV during 2004, while Will And Grace is at number 18 and the last episode of Frasier ranks 27.

Big Brother is followed by the BBC's surprise hit Strictly Come Dancing (4), ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, won by Kerry McFadden and Joe Pasquale (5), Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen (11) and Simon Cowell's talent show the X Factor (19).

Former PA Rebecca Loos being interviewed on Sky One about her alleged affair with England captain David Beckham is also on the list (50). Memorable showbiz events include The Office winning a Golden Globe (63) and Sir Elton John laying into Madonna at the Q Awards (92).
