Bono Talks Suicide (the band)

In the 1970's, seminal punk band Suicide (with members Martin Rev and Alan Vega) helped shape the legendary New York punk scene along with The Ramones and the New York Dolls, and even managed to tour the UK with The Clash. No stranger to punk music appreciation himself, Bono has commented on Suicide in a recently published book by David Nobakht called "Suicide: No Compromise."

In the book, Bono tells Nobakht something that will greatly surprise trivia-loving fans about one of U2's biggest hits:

"Suicide's 'Cheree' was such a spooky pop tune; Serge Gainsbourg 'on crank'. The most extraordinary heavy petted, incantation of a girl's name ever. We were listening to that when we wrote 'With Or Without You'. Sounds far-fetched? Listen again..."
