First and foremost, I am not sure if this has been done before but if it has can someone lead me to it.

I have decided while I wait for No Line to drop that I would tabulate a formula to rank the current bands based on sales and touring statistics as this has been an argument for years and years and obviously it is completely subjective.

I have not decided how I am going to weigh up the stats in ranking the current bands (i.e Album sales, whether Singles should be included, the weight of ticket sales, how recent an album was etc.) but it is like a sport for me and so will amuse me in the meantime.

So if any music business gurus has any advice for me in how to go about this process it would be greatly appreciated.

One advice: singles sales should be out of the equation.

I do however think that the number of number 1 singles (rock, worldwide, hot 100) and albums should be a large factor.

Also level of influence although extremely hard to judge should be taken into account. Maybe based on the number of covers done on some of their biggest songs.

My three criteria would be...in order of importance...

1) Album sales
2) Tour attendance
3) Single position (like on Billboard Hot 100, etc)

But that's just me.
