Week 17

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Mediatraffic has updated for this week. They STILL havent updated the All Time list yet, though!
This week HTDAAB moves up another spot to #14 but as there is no arrow to indicate sales gain, it probably dropped a couple of thousand copies.
Sometimes is now at #10 on the tracks chart!

Sting2, are you extrapolating the mediatraffic figures? Otherwise, the 7,140,1000 figure would become over 7,500,000!!!!!

I'm not extrapolating, just giving an estimate of what mediatraffic's numbers probably are despite the fact its been a couple of weeks since we have had some "hard numbers" for sales on there.

Worldwide, BOMB has sold 7,140,000 copies to consumers and 8,500,000 copies to retailers.

more recent articles have put sales approaching 9 million - we know that means nearly 9 million shipped to retailers. The increase in the shipped figures must be for markets that sold (or are close to selling out ) their shipments - I would think the UK might be such a market.

Although they haven't updated the all-time list, they have updated some awards e.g. Eminem now shows at 8 million sales. It is a pity mediatraffic don't give sales figures for new entries outside the top 5 as that would give us a better idea of Bomb's sales. Anyway a one place rise - with 3 new entries ahead - is okay.

Sometimes in the top 10 - with a points increase- is also good news. Won't be as big a hit worldwide as Vertigo but if US airplay really takes off it might make top 5 worldwide.

Hi Vox02, the same question to you:
Do you know the sales figures of the other U2-Albums?

Shout out to the Top U2 Countries

Props to all countries with U2 in the Top 10 (with a few exceptions for exceptional performance), which is all BB tracks...straight from Billboard or Country Chart and updated for this week's issue.

Argentina...HTDAAB is at #10 on the Billboard Album Chart

Denmark...Sometimes is at #4 on the BB Singles Chart

Belgium...HTDAAB is at #8 on the Top 10 Album Chart

Spain...Sometimes is at #5 on the Singles Chart

Portugal...Sometimes is at #1 on the Singles Chart!

Netherlands...HTDAAB is at #8 on the Album Chart

From Charts all over the World:

Lithuania...Sometimes is at #9 on Singles Chart

Croatia...Sometimes is at #4 on Singles Chart

Yugoslavia...Sometimes is at #11 on Singles Chart

Ukraine...Sometimes is at #12 on Singles Chart w/bullet

Albania...Sometimes is at #2 on Singles Chart

Cyprus...HTDAAB is at #2 on Album Chart

Costa Rica...Vertigo at #4 on Singles Chart

Singapore...Vertigo 13, Sometimes 30 on Singles Chart

South Africa...Sometimes is at 10 on Singles Chart

WOW. U2 by far has the biggest international audience of any rock band. If I had included the "Top 30", I would have listed at least 40 countries if not more. At #10 on the Planet, Sometimes is a bonafide Global hit and the 2nd song from Atomic to make it into the Top 10 in the World! And, it may not be done yet!

Worst taste in Music goes to....South Korea, which has 27 Britney Spears songs in their Top 100 Singles Chart. My favorite is "I'm a Slave 4 U - Thunderpuss mix". Hell, even the Backstreet Boys charted at 95 with "Shape of My Heart". What kind of radio station plays Britney's entire song collection!!! Even worse, on 6 different "Rock" charts, no U2 songs were to be found. Strangely, John Lennon was sandwiched in between two John Denver songs.

Some info:

ATYCLB chart positions:

1-1-3-8-9-8-11-10-14-14
14-18-19-22-28-33-23-28-34-44
44-47-50-?-50-x-x-x-x-x
x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-49-37
40-43-41-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

BDay was #1 for 4 weeks
Stuck, Elevation and Walk On were #2
ATYCLB was 3x Platinum (300,000 copies).

Best Of 80-90 was 4x Platinum? (400,000) and #1 (after some weeks at #2).

Pop was 1x Platinum

I don't know more sales figures but I read many times that JT sold aprox 350,000 copies and R&H 200,000. JT was the biggest selling album of 1987 in Spain.

Well, i e-mailed some associations in order to get some results from the oldest records.

I know for sure Pop sold 100.000 aprox.

Best Of 80-90 in only 2 weeks went x5 platinum and sold 220.000 aprox (in the first week it sold 120.000). There's a great possibility that it might be the fastest selling album by any artist in Portugal.

All That You Can't Leave Behind sold 100.000 aprox

Best Of 90-00 sold 100.000 aprox also.

How To Dismatle An Atomic Bomb has now sold aprox 70.000. it went platinum in it's first week (40.000 sold).

These are numbers from shipments.

Platinum here in Portugal is equal to 40.000 sold. Gold represents 20.000 and Silver means 10.000, at least.
All U2 albums since Pop (including it), went to number one. The oldest ones don't know... yet.

I think they are pretty good numbers, since Portugal population is about 10 million
