As for weekly sales around the world, I looked far and wide to come up with these estimates, which are just that, so if anyone knows for sure, let us know.

Week 15 (last week) Global sales HTDAAB = 94,000
Week 16 (this week) Global sales HTDAAB = 91,000

We are getting very close to "stabilization", and I think that will result in weekly, Global sales of between 85K-95K for quite some time.

I guess we won't know the real figures until mediatraffic updates the all-time list.

Canada singles airplay chart (since single sales are insignificant?)

ABOY drops from 16 to 18 on the Top 100
Sometimes rises from 41 to 20 on the Top 100

Two songs in the Top 20, and Sometimes is flying up the charts!
Awesome...and perhaps this helped the album rise 4 spots...

Germany #14 (#22)

Sometimes enters at #23. Stuck was only #40, Staring At The Sun #41 and Mysterious also worse in the first week. Good Result.

Zoovation, i aprreciate a lot your work and especially the list you've made in the other thread where you summarized the chart run of a lot of countries...it would be great if you posted an update of that list week by week in the "week xx"-type threads :)

i could help you with the italian chart, and i'm sure that there are other members from this forum that could do the same on a weekly basis for other specific countries.

P.S.

have you week by week sales data for the world chart? i'm sure that every week we had sales figures (official or supposed), but if you kept notice of sales it would be great if you could post them here :)

Excerpt from Billboard on Week 16 European Top 100...

'U2's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" (Universal Island) rises 7-4 in its 16th week on Top 100 Albums, fuelled by climbs of 6-4 in the Netherlands and 12-9 in Portugal.'

Props go out to both countries, and all the countries in Europe that have kept this album flying high on the Eurocharts for so long now!

did europe outsell US yet?

Umm...are you asking about UK versus U.S.? All European Countries versus U.S.? North America versus Europe? There are many ways to compare sales, but country to country seems most appropriate. The U.S. has had around 3M in sales for HTDAAB. The UK is over 1M in sales for HTDAAB. You can break this down and look at it "per capita", which is more like an analysis of "sales/population" of each country.

The U.S. has the most album sales of any country for HTDAAB, but if you look at it per capita, I'm sure the UK and most countries in Europe are doing better when you look at sales versus total population. As for Europe outselling the U.S., I think that is probably the case as well.

U2 are touring heavily in the U.S., but I don't think it's because they hope to sell more millions more albums here. The general travel distance between shows is neglible relative to R.O.W., the infrastructure of modern arena facilities available in just about every decent sized city is a huge plus, and the fact that they can sell out 60 shows and get them done in a relatively short time frame make the U.S. a good business proposition when you consider touring. I think each member has a house or residency in the U.S., which probably also helps U2 and their families deal with extended stays in this country.

People use album sales/population for a given country to gage U2's popularity, which does provide a better measure than total albums sold period. However, I don't think U2 care about that, really. From a business standpoint only, U2 benefits greatly by having enough popularity in the U.S. to sell 3-4M copies of an album, and enough popularity to sellout all the shows that end up getting booked on a tour.

I wish more people in the U.S. liked U2, and given today's state of radio, I do think it's a function of "exposure", i.e., U2 is not king of the mainstream here in the States, so U2 does have to work harder to get the exposure that comes so easily to the likes of Eminem, J.Lo, 50-cent, etc., which is very sad IMO.

However, U2's popularity in the U.S. has increased tremendously since POP. From a "per capita" standpoint, sales of POP represent U2's low point in the U.S. over the last 20+ years, right or wrong. If U2 had waited until Nov of 1997 to release POP, had a different lead single, and been "ready" to start the tour in March, then history would probably be much kinder to POP, but that's another story, and I've already said way too much to answer your simple question.

Per capita, the US probably has the smallest percentage of U2 fans (hence why the album is so much lower on the charts here than in almost any other country)......it's mostly because U2 are an "older" act, so the youngsters won't buy their albums here, while kids in Europe will....
