Week 10

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
So 2 huge jumps in 2 weeks isnt great? :|

Great? No. Good and promising? Definitely. All depends on how the next few weeks go, if the album bombs back down 20 places then the last two weeks aren't great if the album holds then we can say it's been great

HITS now updating: No Line has 3,476 units sold with 36% in. An almost identical start to last week on Hits, so maybe a bit of levelling off. A good start.

HITS update:

NLOTH #37, 8,608 with 68.46% in.

Not sure how this compares to last week. U2 was #34 on Billboard so if they are around the chart position again this week it can't have been that bad of a week...

HITS Final now in: No Line RISES one place to number 34 with 15,467 units sold, an increase of 9%.:up:

of course, some homer will deny mother's day had any effect despite overwhelming evidence

I will have to agree with you 100% (oh lord, i have gone to the dark side). You were right about Easter and Im sure your right again that their increase this week was due to Mothers day. However, if (and that is a big if) Magnificent takes hold in the US, the album will be increasing on a regular basis. This song is really too good not to boost sales and be a hit. I say that as someone who is NOT a "homer" but as someone who really believes it is one of their best songs. Time will tell.......

mothers day, that explains it. but im not too sure how much of a mothers day present U2 albums are, taylor swift, boybands etc understandable. hopefully magnificent can stabilise sales, but im sure next week there will be huge % drops across the board.

As I have Homer as my avatar, I'll respond.

And while I won't deny that Mother's Day *might* have had an impact, I will say it was minimal. Clearly other albums benefitted far more from the holiday. If NLOTH remains steady next week, then I think it's safe to say that Mother's Day did nothing - the album simply is now leveling off. If the album drops by a significant amount next week, then I will agree that Mother's Day was similar to Easter in that it gave the album a slight reprieve.

Regardless, it seems you can't wait for this album to finally fall out of the Top 100. Schadenfreude - thy name is GibsonExplorer.

NLOTH around the world...(can only see top 5 or 10 on Billboard)

Czech Republic - #2
Argentina - #5
Hungary - #5
Italy - #10
Mexico - #6
Portugal - #7
All of Europe - #5

Sales in the UK now stand at just 290,000 so far, it'll cross 300,000 in two weeks

Really poor sales considering Bomb sold 1.2 million +. It's currently the 7th biggest selling album of the year there

And I bought 3 of those! :applaud:

After my exams finish next week, I might undertake a more detailed analysis into the album sales (put some of that learnin' to use).

UK, album up to #23 in todays midweeks,

Magnificent currently at a very low 72

how come sales dropped on mediatraffic. even with a 9% rise in US and a big chart rise in UK.

because that is only one third of sales sales, the rest of the world counts for the other 2/3rds. Sales dropped 9000 outside UK and US, and rose 4000 in UK + US

US + UK combined must be more than 1/3 of U2 sales?
strange it would drop by 9k outside of those 2 countries as so far its been the rest of world thats been propping this album up, yet as soon as theres a sales increase in US & Uk, the ROW sales drop. strange Magnificent didnt help in Europe

also NLOTH now down to just over double VLV sales, even though VLV has been out nearly a year and sold 7.5M

I understand the need to compare NLOTH to VLV, but even if it sold just 7,5mln, I think it's safe to say VLV is The Joshua Tree or Thriller or Ten, or OK, Computer etc. of Coldplay's discography (sales-wise), I'm more interested in Green Day's and Eminem's new albums to see how big U2 really are.

im sure in 2005 people (me certainly) said coldplays x&y was their joshua tree.
Agree that greenday and Eminem will be good indicators as to NLOTH's success.

So the album will climb at least 5 spots next week.

I clearly remember that a few years ago the US accounted for 1/3 of worldwide sales. I don´t know if this is still the case though.

With Bomb it was

35% US
15% UK

Well just under that but it was 3 million + in US and 1.2 million + in UK, and the album sold 9 million so nearly half between them

This time

900k US
300k UK
2.7 worldwide

Just it's dropped a little since last time

Right, so according to those numbers US sales for U2 still account for one third of global sales. Mind you, since we have actual data for USA and UK, we should use the 2.9 M figure for worldwide sales instead of the raw (non extrapolated) mediatraffic number.
