Weak market for bands in the USA?

On this weeks Billboard top 100, I noticed that there are only 4 bands or groups that have multi-platinum albums(2 million or more sold).

Evanescence, Fallen 5 million #72
Linkin Park, Meteora 4 million #71
Maroon5, Songs About Jane 3 million #18
Hoobastank, The Reason 2 million #94


As U2 prepares to release a new album, the competition they face in this respect has never been lighter in the USA.

Yeah, the record industries been having a down year over here. Although that's probably due in part to the iPod phenomenom. Gee, I really hope this whole iPod/digital music craze doesn't hurt U2's sales...
