U218- week 9

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It would have been #1 if it wasnt for that Japan artist on there who I never heard of lol

Perhaps the mediatraffic chart has a slightly different time frame for measurement of sales than the sight from Geocities, but U218 is #1 in the world for last week...see the chart description and Top 5 positions below. While checking out some of the other links on that sight, I did come across the Top Selling Artists of all Time in the U.S. through 2001, and there was U2 listed with 45 million albums sold per RIAA. That at least is in line with several other "official" totals I've seen before, so it does lend some credibility to the weekly world sales chart IMO.

With U2 historically getting about 1/3 of their total album sales from the U.S., this is also in line with the roughly 150 million albums sold worldwide that was quoted frequently after ATYCLB reached 12 million. Add in the B/O 1990-2000 sales estimates, HTDAAB at some 9M+, and U218 seemingly headed towards maybe 4M, and the more recent figures thrown around putting U2 at about 170M albums sold worldwide may just be about right. Anwyay, back to the chart...

Nelly Furtado is going to prove tough competition, that album has had like a billion singles around the globe, most of them ascending to the top of one singles chart or another.......same for Justin Timberlake........those are two red hot albums with immaculate Timbaland production....."Say It Right"..."All Good Things"..."My Love"........the hits just keep on coming. Then again, it's admirable that an album of old U2 tracks, a new cover, and a rather lackluster new track has managed to do this well against some of the greatest pop records of the last decade.

Yes must be a slightly different time frame to MediaTraffics - only way to explain the 74k difference for Boa...or one of them has the wrong figure!
